2018 Bridgestone Invitational Odds: Will Tiger Roar Back?

  • Dustin Johnson is favored to win again this weekend at the Bridgestone Invitational
  • Firestone CC is one of Tiger Woods’ favorite courses, however, and he’s listed at reasonable odds

The Bridgestone Invitational, starting this Thursday at Firestone CC in Akron, Ohio, features one of the strongest non-major fields of the year. Tiger Woods has won the tournament eight times, most recently in 2013, and set the tournament record in 2000 by recording a score of 21 under par.

Odds to Win Bridgestone Invitational

Player Bovada Odds
Dustin Johnson +700
Rory McIroy +1200
Justin Rose +1200
Tiger Woods +1200
Jordan Spieth +1800
Rickie Fowler +2000
Justin Thomas +2000
Jason Day +2200
Jon Rahm +2500
Francesco Molinari +2500

No surprise that DJ is the favorite. He’s measurably the best golfer in the world and performed magnificently in the Canadian Open last weekend.

Jordan Spieth and Rickie Fowler are both way too high on this odds sheet, but you already knew that.

Jordan Spieth is a Bad Bet at The Open Championship: Find Out Why

Tiger Woods isn’t actually a bad bet, he clearly adores this course and is playing at an extremely high level in 2018, just sixth in Strokes Gained. Is Firestone where Tiger breaks his long winless streak? Is our long national nightmare almost over?

Bridgestone Invitational Prop Bets

In addition to the straight up outright bets, Bovada is offering some interesting odds on pairings. The first: Will Tiger Woods or Jordan Spieth win the tournament, or will someone else?

Bet Bovada Odds
Tiger Woods & Jordan Spieth +650
The Field -1200

Does the math work? The answer: kind of! These odds are a little shorter on Tiger and Jordan than the sum of their individual odds, which means that they’re a little longer on the field. It’s only a slight difference, and since Jordan Spieth is so wildly overrated here I’d love to take the field.

Bet Bovada Odds
Dustin Johnson & Rory McIlroy +400
The Field -650

The math works out slightly the opposite here: +400 is a little longer than +700 and +1200 combined.

Bridgestone Invitational Nationality Odds

Player Bovada Odds to be Top Spanish Player
Jon Rahm -200
Sergio Garcia +250
Rafa Cabrera Bello +450

Open De Espana Champion Jon Rahm is the favorite to carry the flag for Spain, but a string of inconsistent performances (cut at The Open, the US Open, and The Players) might give bettors pause.

Player Bovada Odds to be Top South African
Branden Grace +150
Louis Oosthuizen +200
Charl Schwartzel +250
Brandon Stone +600
Jaco Ahlers +900

According to Strokes Gained, Branden Grace gains about seven tenths of a stroke per round on his nearest countryman, so it’s no surprise he’s the favorite.

Player Bovada Odds to be Top Australian
Jason Day -125
Marc Leishman +280
Adam Scott +300
Cameron Smith +600
Wade Ormsby +1200

Jason Day is well ahead of his countrymen in terms of play, and deserves even shorter odds here. He’s one of the top five golfers in the world right now, top three if you like Strokes Gained, and nobody else is close.

Player Bovada Odds to be Top Swedish Player
Henrik Stenson -110
Alex Noren EVEN
Alexander Bjork +400

A near dead heat between Henrik Stenson and Alex Noren, although Noren has had more success recently. Noren came 17th at The Open and won the Open de France, although Henrik Stenson did finish T6 at the US Open. Your call!
