2019 WGC-Dell Match Play Semifinal Odds & Picks

  • The Semifinals are set at the WGC-Dell Match Play
  • Francesco Molinari is now the odds-on favorite followed by Matt Kuchar
  • Who is the best bet to win it all?

The semifinals are set at the WGC-Dell Match Play, and although it’s not the star-studded final four the public was expecting, it still features a plethora of world-class talent.

Without a doubt the biggest surprise remaining is Lucas Bjerregaard. The 52nd-ranked player in the world easily handled Henrik Stenson in the Round of 16, before pulling off the upset of the tournament in the quarterfinals.

He’ll square off against the 2013 champ Matt Kuchar in one semifinal, while reigning Open Champion Francesco Molinari will face Kevin Kisner in the other.

Francesco Molinari +137 +140
Matt Kuchar +250 +250
Kevin Kisner +350 +400
Lucas Bjerregaard +400 +450

*Odds taken March 30 at 9pm EST

Molinari is now the odds-on favorite to win the event and has 10 straight match play victories dating back to last year’s Ryder Cup.

Francesco is on Fire

He put on a clinic Saturday, racking up nine birdies and an eagle in just 27 holes en route to a pair of convincing wins. He’s the highest seeded player remaining and the only one who’s won a major.

He’s the best pure ball striker left and a very deserving favorite but my money is going to the guy right below him on the odds board.

Kuchar is Playing the Best Golf of his Career

Kuchar has turned back the clock this season. After four and a half years between victories, he’s already won twice on tour this season and is poised to raise a third trophy on Sunday. He didn’t trail at any point during his two Saturday matches and has been behind for just eight holes in his fives matches this week.

He’ll never beat himself and will consistently pepper fairways and greens all round. I’ll gladly take +250, especially since he’s a heavy favorite against Bjerregaard in the Semis.

Matt Kuchar -150 Lucas Bjerregaard +115
Francesco Molinari -190 Kevin Kisner +150

Semifinal Best Bets

1.  Matt Kuchar over Lucas Bjerregaard (-150):  At some point the slipper is going to fall off Cinderella and Bjerregaard is going to come crashing back to earth.

He was lights-out in both matches Saturday but Kuchar was even better. The American led for 25 of the 33 holes he played and made just a single bogey all day.

2.  Francesco Molinari over Kevin Kisner (-190): Molinari has easily been the most dominant player this week. He’s won all five matches, with only one lasting more than 15 holes.

He’s made just four bogeys through 74 holes this week, while Kisner had to scratch and claw his way to get here. He needed a playoff to make it out of the group stage and benefitted greatly from Haotong Li’s meltdown in the Round of 16. There’s a reason why Molinari is 43 spots higher in the World Golf Rankings than Kisner, so don’t overthink this one.
