Dodgers Now Have 5-1 Odds to Win World Series After Sweeping Pirates

  • The Los Angeles Dodgers are now the second betting choice to win the 2019 World Series
  • The Dodgers have moved from +680 to +500 in the past 15 days
  • LA has lost the last two World Series

Will the third time prove to be a charm for the Los Angeles Dodgers? Bovada is certainly of that mind. The sportsbook currently lists the Dodgers as co-favorites to win the 2019 World Series along with the New York Yankees.

A cross-section of some of the leading sportsbooks shows the Dodgers with average odds of +500 to win the 2019 Fall Classic, giving them the second shortest World Series odds.

2019 World Series Odds

Team 2019 World Series Odds at Bovada
Los Angeles Dodgers +450
New York Yankees +450
Houston Astros +500
St. Louis Cardinals +1000
Tampa Bay Rays +1000
Philadelphia Phillies +1100
Boston Red Sox +1500
Chicago Cubs +1600
Milwaukee Brewers +1800
Cleveland Indians +2000
Minnesota Twins +2000
New York Mets +2000

The Dodgers have lost the last two World Series. They fell in five games to the Boston Red Sox last fall and dropped a close seven-game set to the Houston Astros in 2017.

Riding Cody’s Coattails

It’s been an historic April for Dodgers first baseman/outfielder Cody Bellinger and the team has been happy to ride on his coattails. He’s already set Major League Baseball records for RBI (37) and total bases (96) in the month.

Entering play Tuesday, Bellinger led the majors in those two categories, along with runs (30), hits (46), home runs (14), batting average (.434), on-base percentage (.508), slugging (.906), OPS (1.413), and sacrifices (three). And he’s only struck out 15 times in 128 plate appearances.

Gee, wonder who’s going to be named player of the month?

On Top of the World

Since ending a six-game losing streak on April 14th, the Dodgers have gone 11-4. They haven’t lost back-to-back games. They’ve won three of their last four series, including sweeps of the Cincinnati Reds and Pittsburgh Pirates.

Incredibly, they’ve done this with just one win this month from Clayton Kershaw, and only two from Walker Buehler, who has an earned-run average of 5.25.

Dodgers Could Make History

Losers of the past two World Series, it’s the fifth time in franchise history the Dodgers appeared in back-to-back Fall Classics, and the third time that they’d lost consecutive World Series.

You know what the Dodgers haven’t done in over a century of big-league competition? Go to the World Series in three successive seasons.

Is history about to be made?

Speaking of Traditions

As much as the Dodgers have proven impressive in April, there’s also cause for concern.

There were some wild swings, including a six-game winning streak and a six-game losing streak. The Cardinals swept them in a four-game series and LA is just 4-3 against the Brewers.

The Dodgers and New York Yankees have met in a record 11 World Series, so why not make it an even dozen? The Yankees were decimated by injuries to start the season and just kept on rolling.

As they get healthy, the Bronx Bombers only figure to get better. Bet them to win the World Series.

Pick: New York Yankees (+450)
