Tiger Woods’ 2019 PGA Championship Odds Continue Getting Better 2 Weeks Before Event

  • Tiger Woods’ odds of winning the 2019 PGA Championship are improving in the eyes of bookmakers
  • It’s not uncommon for Tiger to have no starts in between major championships
  • Who is the best bet to lift the Wanamaker trophy on May 19th?

Despite not teeing it up since his epic Masters victory two weeks ago, Tiger Woods’ PGA Championship odds have gotten even shorter according to bookmakers.

While the Big Cat generally plays a regular tour event between major stops, it’s not unprecedented that he won’t this time, bypassing this weeks Wells Fargo Championship to rest.

Expectations Sky-High for Tiger Woods

Tiger silenced his critics and, more importantly, served notice to himself and his peers that he can win major championships again with his methodical victory at Augusta National.

As has always been the case in his career, expectations are absolutely enormous, but he’s proven he can get the major championship monkey off his back and there’s no reason to suggest he won’t be in contention again at Bethpage Black in two weeks. Woods won there at the 2002 US Open and finished T-6th when they returned for the 2009 edition of the Open.

Woods Not Playing Between Major Championships

This won’t be the first time in his career that Tiger Woods elects not to play a golf tournament in between majors – though it is rare, as it’ll be the fifth time he’s decided to do it. As he’s El Tigre, it shouldn’t come as a shock that he’s had success using this model before.

Tiger Woods’ Results with No Starts Between Majors

Tournament Result
1999 Open Championship/PGA Championship WIN
2006 Masters/U.S. Open Missed Cut
2008 Masters/U.S. Open WIN
2013 U.S. Open/Open Championship T-6th

In 2006 Tiger was dealing with death of his father, and 2008 knee surgery kept him out of the rest of the year following his victory.

Should You Bet on Tiger to Win the 2019 PGA Championship?

Fool you once shame on me. Fool you twice? Shame on me again. While there’s no reason Tiger Woods can’t immediately pick up right where he left off at the Masters and dominate the PGA Championship, it’s a tall order to win two straight majors – something he’s accomplished just once since 2002. Make the tough call and save your money for someone else.

The Best Value Bet to Win 2019 PGA Championship

It’s hard to believe that just one average result at the Masters (T-21st) has dropped Rory McIlroy into a tie for third favorite status (+1200). With the added benefit of not having the weight of attempting to win the career grand slam at the Masters, he should play more freely. After all, before the Masters, he had posted seven straight top-10’s on the PGA Tour this season. Bet Rory with confidence to win his third career PGA Championship.
