Spieth Favored After 2 Rounds of PGA Memorial Tournament

  • Three golfers are tied at the Memorial, one shot ahead of Jordan Spieth
  • Several big names lurking heading into moving day
  • See the updated live odds entering Saturday at the 2019 Memorial Tournament

With apologies to the trio of co-leaders – Martin Kaymer, Troy Merritt & K.H. Lee – Jordan Spieth is the man to beat after two rounds of the Memorial Tournament.

After a prolonged stretch of poor play that didn’t result in a single top-20 finish until the PGA Championship three weeks ago, Spieth has found his game and is now in position to win for the first time since the 2017 Open Championship.

Jordan Spieth Primed For Weekend Charge

He’s been hovering around leaderboards entering the weekend throughout the season but kept tripping up on Saturdays. However, Jordan Spieth has finally figured out his game and is in the mix for the third straight tournament.

Spieth was third at the PGA Championship and then last weekend at the Charles Schwab Challenge was tied for second heading into the final round before a middling final round cost him.

Through 36 holes, the three-time major champ is fifth in strokes gained off the tee (192nd this season) and second in strokes gained around the greens (72nd on tour.)

Spieth had his best putting week of his career last week and now that he’s got the other aspects of his game sharp, you’d be wise to lay down cash on him heading into the weekend.

Tiger Woods Seven Back After Two Rounds

Tiger was having a steady if not great tournament when he approached the 15th hole today, just five strokes off top spot. Standing in the fairway for his second shot on the par five, Woods made an absolute mess of a double bogey to stifle his chances considerably.

All of his stats this week have been middling and he has a ton of guys to leapfrog. If there’s anybody who could make a charge it would be him but the +4000 odds at Bovada aren’t all that enticing.

He is, surprisingly, +6600 at MyBookie which is much more palpable.

Best Live Value Picks at Memorial Tournament

  1. Justin Rose (+1000): The 2010 Champ at the Memorial vaulted into contention after a sizzling 9-under, 63 Friday. Also was a runner-up here in a playoff in 2015. Won at Torrey Pines this season.
  2. Andrew Putnam (+5000): Just three shy of the lead, Putnam is coming off a tie for third at last week’s Charles Schwab Challenge. 9th in third round scoring average this season.
  3. Si Woo Kim (+6600): Great boom or bust pick just four shots back. 4th in strokes gained off the tee this week which will yield birdie opportunities. Either amazing or dreadful this season, with three top-4 finishes, but came into this event missing his last four cuts.
