AFL Round 15 Betting Review

PUNTER’S PAL

It was an unthinkable proposition not too long ago but betting against the Hawks at the MCG now seems a smart betting play and there were plenty of smart punters at the weekend.

In a tough round for punters with only five of nine favourites winning, the Eagles appeared the surest bet to many and the reigning premiers didn’t let them down.

BOOKIE’S BEST

It looked a simple start to round 15 but, as the famous saying goes, “the best-laid plans of mice and men often go awry.” And that was certainly the case at Marvel Stadium on Thursday night.

The Giants were backed as if near on unbeatable against the inconsistent Bombers but, as we approach the home stretch, the kids from Sydney’s west showed they still can’t be entirely trusted when on an excursion to Melbourne.

FIRST GOAL FRUSTRATION

It was a frustrating round for first goal bettors which started with Dylan Shiel nabbing the opening against the Giants at $34 and continued the next night when Paul Seedsman booted home first for the Crows against the Cats at $41.

In the match which attracted the third largest amount of first goal bets – Collingwood v North Melbourne, Tom Phillips popped up with the opener at $41 with no more than a few dollars on him.

MULTI MAGIC

This was a no brainer if you had paid attention to our social channels and also some mainstream media late last week as one Ladbrokes client from Werribee in Victoria saw the last of his 12 legs home for a collect of $405,190. All for a $100 wager placed back in March.

The opening leg was over 2.5 goals in the Rennes v Arsenal Europa clash, the second was the Crows winning the AFLW premiership. The remaining 10 were all AFL bets in various rounds using Ladbrokes season pricing.

GWS Giants -5.5 v Essendon (round 1)/Gold Coast Suns +31.5 v Freo (round 2)/Essendon -10.5 v North Melbourne (round 5)/Geelong to beat Hawthorn (round 5)/GWS Giants to beat Sydney Swans (round 6)/ Gold Coast Suns +70.5 v West Coast (round 7)/Adelaide -6.5 v Port Adelaide (round 8)/Geelong -13.5 v Sydney Swans (round 11)/ Essendon -15.5 v Hawthorn (round 13)

And the final leg on Saturday, Gold Coast -59.5 v Sydney Swans. A line which has shifted from that mark when he placed it in March, to +33.5 at the bounce.

BACKING THE FUTURE

Geelong has increased its stranglehold on the AFL Premiership according to the Ladbrokes bookmakers if closest rivals in the race both suffered losses in matches they were heavily fancied.

Richmond, which continues to see a host of stars return from injury, is being kept very safe by bookies with the Tigers price slashed from $15 to $8.50.

PREMIERSHIP MOVES

Geelong – $3.50 > $3.50

Collingwood – $3.75 > $4.50

West Coast – $7.00 > $6.00

GWS Giants – $5.00 > $6.50

Richmond – $15.00 > $8.50

Adelaide – $17.00 > $19.00

Brisbane – $41.00 > $29.00

Essendon – $67.00 > $41.00

Port Adelaide – $34.00 > $51.00

MOST LOSSES MOVES

Gold Coast – $1.44 > $1.22

Carlton –  $2.75 > $4.00
