Royal Randwick Preview – Saturday 3rd August

Race 1 - 11:45am

3yo Maiden Handicap (1200m)

The first three year old Metro race for the new racing season has the Peter and Paul Snowden trained Mandela the early favourite at Ladbrokes.com.au. Mandela has raced twice for a Canterbury Maiden second and a handy fifth in a Saturday 2yo Handicap at Randwick a fortnight ago and will be hard to beat back to Maiden company. First starter Astralis is racing with the winkers on and race day betting will be the best guide to his chances. Premiership winning jockey James McDonald rides Art Collection and Edison won a recent Rosehill barrier trial in preparation for his first start as a three year old.

The addition of blinkers and with James McDonald in the saddle, Acquital has a great chance to breakthrough for an overdue win. Race 6 - 2:45pm

BenchMark 78 Handicap (1800m)

Toryjoy was an all the way winner over 1800m at Rosehill two starts back but was out of contention early last start when slow to leave the barrier. Has to be given another chance. German import Attention Run was a Randwick 1600m winner at his first Australian start and has to be considered again. Milseain raced on the pace when a fading seventh over this course and distance but look for improvement with Hugh Bowman in the saddle and Waking Moment is not the worst.
