Odds Say Tekashi 6ix9ine Will Not Perform at a Live Concert in 2020

  • New York-based rapper Tekashi 6ix9ine is in the limelight amidst a sea of legal troubles and controversy
  • His recent court trial saw him testifying as a government ‘star witness’ and he’s now considered a ‘snitch’
  • Read below as we predict whether the rapper will perform live in 2020

The worlds of hip-hop and the justice system are no strangers to each other’s realms.

As long as rappers have been spitting rhymes, they’ve been earning (and paying for) street cred. We’ve seen stars like 50 Cent, The Game, and Ja Rule (amongst others) on trial over the years for various reasons.

But nothing has been quite as intriguing and complex as the recent trial involving New York City-based rapper Tekashi 6ix9ine (whose real name is Daniel Hernandez).

This one is truly a case for the books and has everyone in the business talking about it. Talk about a whirlwind.

Tekashi 6ix9ine, whose most recent album cover features an illustrated version of himself taking a rainbow-colored pee, is the most recent hip-hop artist to appear in court. This time, we move beyond petty crime into the world of big reveals and potentially massive consequences.

After a string of events that would easily make an intense Hollywood biopic, 6ix9ine’s court appearance has practically killed off all the street cred he built up with his fans after he testified on behalf of the government by snitching.

With his social position now extremely compromised, fans of the rapper are questioning if they’ll ever have a chance to see him live anytime soon. There’s no way someone can appear on stage if there’s a mark out on them.

Real Talk, Real Threats?

Taking a bold move, 6ix9ine went on the stand to testify against rappers and gangsters The Nine Trey Gangsta Bloods. Following his own involvement with the group, he took a deal to testify in this case to potentially dodge a 47 year-to-life sentence.

But it’s not always that easy. With sentencing happening in January 2020, it’s anyone’s guess where 6ix9ine will end up. And even if his cooperation and ‘snitching’ keep him out of the slammer, his safety will be a huge consideration.

Defecting from a gang, releasing classified information, and throwing anyone under a bus are all individually problematic moves. Consider that 6ix9ine has done all three here and he’s really in hot water.

With sentencing happening in January 2020, it’s anyone’s guess where 6ix9ine will end up.

Online, 6ix9ine has seen death threats. Fans are divided – either defending his position or criticizing him. With a music career that has been this dramatic and controversial all along, 6ix9ine’s fame is currently much more about drama than artistic output.

Even if he doesn’t end up behind bars, there is far too much concern for his safety when you consider tour dates or live appearances. For anyone who will want to see 6ix9ine perform they’ll have to stick to preexisting YouTube content while the controversy blows over.

Pick: No (-140)
