Hughie Fury vs Pavel Sour Odds & Picks

  • Hughie Fury faces Pavel Sour Saturday night in Monte Carlo
  • Fury is the heavy favorite but is coming off a unanimous decision loss to Alexander Povetkin
  • Sour should not be taken lightly, going 1-1 in his last two fights which were both against undefeated fighters

Hughie Fury (23-3, 13 KO) looks to get his boxing career back on track against challenger Pavel Sour (11-2, 6 KO) Saturday night.

Fury vs Sour Odds

Team Odds at Bovada
Hughie Fury -2000
Pavel Sour +900

Odds taken Nov. 27th

Fury is listed as a -2000 favorite and that’s a bet you need to run, not walk, away from. I think Sour has a legitimate chance to win this fight and when you consider he’s paying +900 it could turn out to be one of the betting finds of the year. Here’s why you should fade Fury, even if it’s to sprinkle a small wager on the big underdog.

Fury Coming Off Uninspiring Loss to Alexander Povetkin

The last time we saw Fury in action he was underwhelming to put it lightly. He lost a relatively uneventful decision to Alexander Povetkin, with all three judges score cards reading 117-111. While one lackluster performance is forgivable, Fury is now 3-3 in his last six fights.

The big knock on Fury is his conditioning. He’s a big, strong fighter in the early rounds but seems to wear down in the second half of fights. If Sour is able to get this fight into the later rounds there’s a good chance he can rack up points late. When you consider the fact Fury doesn’t have much stopping power, with only 13 KO in 26 bouts, there’s a road map to how Sour can win this fight.

Sour Has Won as an Underdog Recently

Usually when promoters are trying to build up a fighter they book tomato cans – opponents that provide an easy opportunity to impress. Sour is absolutely not the guy you want to book if that’s your intention. His last two fights were against undefeated fighters and he handled himself well. He lost a decision to American Jermaine Franklin after knocking off the previously unbeaten Tomas Salek.

One note of caution if you’re considering betting on the underdog here, Sour has fought outside his native Czech Republic only twice and lost both fights.

Price Makes Betting Sour Worth It

The reality is Fury deserves to the favorite in this fight but that shouldn’t be your concern. When it comes to boxing you need to search for value. In a fight that could be a toss up in the late rounds there’s little reason for Fury to be -2000, thus making Sour a wildly enticing proposition.

Pick: Sour (+900)
