Race 1 - 12:10pm AEDT
Rulership hasn’t been seen at the races since finishing eighth in the Group 1 Blue Diamond six weeks ago but looks the one to beat in the Kindergarten Stakes. The Team Snowden-trained colt won over 1000m on debut here at Randwick; running second in the Blue Diamond Prelude in what was his only other start. He’s had a trial leading into this race and it does look a nice target for him.

Reloaded is currently an emergency runner for the Doncaster Mile, but will take a power of beating in the Carbine Club Stakes if he doesn’t gain a start in the feature. Reloaded has been a strong and consistent performer for the Waller stable throughout his racing career, but it is probably fair to say that he has gone to another level this campaign; placing in both the Group 2 Hobartville Stakes and the Group 1 Rosehill Guineas. The drop back to a mile shouldn’t be an issue and he is drawn to receive a lovely run from barrier 2, with Nash Rawiller confirmed to ride.

Julian Rock has returned to the races in excellent form and a race like the Country Championships Final does not look beyond him. The Invincible Spirit gelding has been a great horse for the Jean Dubios stable throughout his career, but he appears to have returned in career-best form and finished second in BM78 company here before winning passage into this race at Moruya. He’s had a trial in the lead-up to this race and has each-way claims at around the $9 mark.

Colette could hardly have been more impressive at her last two starts and she can gain ballot-free entry into the Oaks by winning the Adrian Knox Stakes. The Godolphin-trained filly has continued to improve with each effort since debuting and resumed from a brief freshen-up to easily win over a mile at Kembla Grange last start. This is a considerable rise in class, but she harbours plenty of upside and will take beating.

I thought there was a lot to like about the way that Youngstar stayed on to finish fifth in the Group 1 Ranvet Stakes a fortnight ago and she is perhaps a touch over the odds to win the Chairman’s Quality at around the $7.50 mark. The Group 1 winner hasn’t been able to quite return to the peaks of her three-year-old season, but she is a noted stayer and ran sixth in the Melbourne Cup in 2018. She was less than two lengths from the smart Shard Ambition when resuming in the Listed Randwick City Stakes and she looks ready to win third-up.

Mamaragan could hardly have been more impressive during his short racing career and the Inglis Sires’ looks more than within his abilities. The Wandjina colt stamped himself as a horse to following with an impressive win in the Group 2 Skyline Stakes on debut and franked that with an impressive run for third in the Golden Slipper a fortnight ago. He’ll only be fitter third-up and the small rise in trip looks as though it will suit.
Ole Kirk has also made only two appearances at the races so far, but also looks an above-average athlete. The Written Tycoon colt has so far won the Talindert Stakes and finished third in the Group 2 VRC Sires’ Produce, and I like that he has had a trial in the lead-up to this.

This is a strong edition of the Australian Derby, but the kiwi raider Sherwood Forest has the runs on the board at this trip and grade and he looks over the odds to win at a double-figure price ($14 at publish). The Fastnet Rock gelding continued to improve with each effort and as he got further out in trip in his homeland, culminating in an impressive win in the Group 1 New Zealand Derby. He found a few of these rivals too sharp in the Rosehill Guineas a fortnight ago but getting back out to the mile and a half is going to be perfect and with even luck, I think his staying ability will prove the difference.

Santa Ana Lane clearly needed the run when he finished down the order in the Group 2 Challenge Stakes when resuming, but he is a horse that typically enjoys sharp improvement with a run under his belt and I think that he can defend his TJ Smith Stakes crown. The Lope De Vega gelding is a five-time Group 1 winner and while he hasn’t won since this race last year, he continued to perform to a high quality in spring, which included a close-up second in The Everest most notably. He’s drawn to receive a lovely run and with appropriate luck, will be hard to hold out.

This is a typically wide-open edition of the Doncaster Mile and there is a legitimate case to be built for nearly every horse confirmed in the capacity field.
Quackerjack doesn’t know how to run a bad race and he is over the odds to win this ($15 at publish). The Not A Single Doubt gelding went to another level in the summer, running second in The Gong and winning his was into this race when saluting in the Group 2 Villiers Stakes. He’s so-far won the Group 3 Liverpool City Cup and finished fourth in the Group 2 Ajax this campaign and will relish getting out to a mile. Rachel King takes the ride, has options from the rails draw and the horse will carry only 53.5kgs.
Nettoyer is another horse that is over the odds in Doncaster Mile betting ($26 at publish). The Sebring mare is as tough as they come and won the Group 3 Aspiration Quality first-up before finishing fourth in the Group 1 Ranvet Stakes two weeks ago. A drop back to the mile won’t be an issue and she’ll be flying home late with the small eight.

Rubisaki is a star in the making and can continue her winning run of form through the PJ Bell Stakes. The Rubick filly has been a strong and consistent performer throughout her racing career but is another horse that has gone to another level, winning each of her four starts including both the Inglis Sprint and Group 2 Kewney Stakes most recently. She is rock-hard fit, and I can’t find a reason why she won’t be in the finish again.
