2020 The Queen Mother Memorial Cup Day Preview (Sha Tin) Sunday 3rd May

Race 1 - 12:30pm

Griffin Plate (1000m) (Turf)

Only five runners to contest race 1 on the eleven-race dual track program at Sha Tin on The Queen Mother Memorial Cup Race Day. Joao Moreira rides Smiling Face and the three year old has a great chance to open his winning account following on from his debut second over this course and distance three weeks ago. Chancheng Prince, Sea Monarch and Like That finished third, fourth and fifth in the same race as Smiling Face.

Race 2 - 1:00pm

Class 5 Handicap (1200m) (All Weather Track)

Fairy Floss was well beaten last start on the turf at Sha Tin but go on his previous start when second on the All Weather Track in a 1200m Class 5. Demons Rock was unplaced at his only run on the All Weather track but has been placed at his last two starts at Happy Valley and Sha Tin and heads back here with solid form. Super Fun finished third on the All Weather Track two starts back and Pleasant Guy has Joao Moreira to help his chances.

Race 3 - 1:30pm

The Queen Mother Memorial Cup (G3) (2400m) (Turf)

Eagle Way ran a much improved race last start when third in the Group 1 QEII Cup (2000m) last Sunday and has won over this course and distance. Helene Leadingstar is racing in great form with wins at his last two starts at Sha Tin in an 1800m Class 2 and a 2000m Class 1 and is up to this. Helene Charisma and Savvy Nine finished third and fifth behind Helene Leadingstar.

Race 4 - 2:00pm

Class 4 Handicap (1000m) (Turf)

Fabulous Eight was blocked for a run at the 300m mark when third in a 1000m Class 4 at Sha Tin and gets his chance here. Dublin Star has been placed at his last three starts and drops back to the 1000m following his latest third in a 1200m Class 4 at Sha Tin. Kinda Cool is making his debut but has won a recent Sha Tin barrier trial and the betting will be the best guide and Split Of A Second has handy Happy Valley form.

2 Units Fabulous Eight

Race 5 - 2:30pm

Class 3 (1200m) (Turf)

Happy Alumni ran home from the back for a third in a similar race a fortnight ago and gets his chance here while he is still down in the weights. Cruising is resuming but hasn’t won first up in the past but has barrier trialled okay in the lead up to his first run back and gets a nice weight relief with apprentice Alfred Chan’s claim. Happy Time has been placed at his last two starts this course and distance and is still down in the weights and Quadruple Double is a three times winner this course and distance.

Race 6 - 3:00pm

Class 4 Handicap (1200m) (All Weather Track)

Excel Delight has been runner up at his last three starts on the All Weather track and has to be given a strong chance here. Joyful Moments is a two times winner this course and distance and didn’t have the best of luck last start when sixth on the All Weather track and look for a better showing. Striking Mr C is up in class and way down in the weights following his last start win in a 1200m Class 5 on the All Weather track and Goldie Flanker is back up in the weights after his win in this Class over the same course and distance.

Race 7 - 3:35pm

Class 4 (1600m) (Turf)

Enjoy Life ran a better race back at Sha Tin last start when second in a 1600m Class 4 and is still way down in the weights with apprentice Ben So’s claim. Galactic is stepping up to the 1600m for the first time coming off a last start third over 1400m and will pay to keep safe with Joao Moreira to ride. Decisive Action wasn’t that far off the pace last start and Monstar Kaka is ready to step up to the 1600m with two runs under his belt this preparation.

Race 8 - 4:05pm

Class 3 Handicap (2000m) (Turf)

Defining Moment is ready to step up to the 2000m after wins at his last two starts at Sha Tin over 1600m and 1800m and has a nice light weight up to a Class 3. London Hall scored twice over this course and distance before his last start third over 2200m in a Happy Valley Class 3 and better suited back here. Enzemble has been given his chance over 2000m after winning over 1800m this class and Charity Go ran a better race last start when third in an 1800m Sha Tin Class 3. 

2 Units Defining Moment

Race 9 - 4:35pm

Class 4 (1400m) (Turf)

Party Genius gets another chance after going down narrowly last start when second this Class and distance at Sha Tin. Winwin Thirtythree has been placed at his last four starts this course and distance and is always a chance. Care Free Prince was a last start all the way winner over the Sha Tin 1400m and has claims again and Golden Four should get a good run from the inside gate.

Race 10 - 5:10pm

Class 3 Handicap (1200m) (All Weather Track)

Just Not Listening has been racing consistently with three placings from his last three starts, all on the All Weather track, and has to be one of the main chances again. Utopia Life was a winner two starts back and then finished third, both over this course and distance and can figure in the mix again. Flying Sword has had a freshen up since finishing fifth on the All Weather Track and Explosive Witness heads to the All Weather track for the first time after being placed twice from his last three starts at Happy Valley.

2 Units Just Not Listening

Race 11 - 5:45pm

Class 3 (1400m) (Turf)

Juneau Park scored back to back Class 4 wins over 1400m before finishing fourth in a Class 3, all at Sha Tin, and is still down in the weights and Joao Moreira is sticking with him. Everyone’s Joy scored a tough win last start in a 1400m Class 3 at Sha Tin and has to be considered among the main chances again. Emerald Spur hasn’t been that far off the pace of late and is fitter for one run back from a short break and Guy Dragon is a two times winner over this course and distance.,  

2 Units Juneau Park
