Moscow Liga Pro Table Tennis Odds & Picks May 31

  • Moscow Liga Pro Russian table tennis continues Sunday with a full slate of matches on tap
  • Which matches are the best bets during the afternoon portion of the card?
  • Analysis of the odds and predictions on outcomes of these events are offered in the story that follows

Is Moscow Liga Pro Russian table tennis destined to be another legendary tale of sporting success?

The world of sports is chock full of players making the most of their chance when opportunity knocks. Lou Gehrig replaced an ailing Wally Pipp at first base for the New York Yankees. Gehrig went on to play the next 2,130 games in a row and fashioned a Hall of Fame career.

The COVID-19 pandemic created an opening for the Moscow Liga Pro when almost all sports were shut down. And Russian table tennis has captured the hearts and minds of sports bettors.

Even last Sunday, with a NASCAR race on track and a golfing exhibition match featuring Tiger Woods, Moscow Liga Pro still created the largest betting handle for the day.

Odds taken May 31.

The popularity of Russian table tennis stems from the ability to parlay several matches into major paydays. Last week, a bettor won nearly $27,000 from a $1,500  wager on a 10-match parlay.

Moscow Liga Pro matches are best three-out-of-five affairs. Each game is played up to 11 points, although the victor must earn their conquest by a minimum of two points. Service changes hands following every second point.

Let’s take a look at some of the best best on Sunday afternoon’s Moscow Liga Pro card.

Elistratov Elite Against Abramov

When Igor Elistratov opposes Kirill Abramov, it generally ends, game, set and match to Elistratov. He’s won six of their last seven meetings.

As well, Elistratov has come out on top in nine of their past 13 matches. However, all three of Abramov’s wins against Elistratov in that span were 3-0 shutout victories.

Overall, Elistratov is 6-2 through his last eight matches and 8-4 through his last 12. Abramov owns a 9-2 slate over his last 11 times stepping up to the table. But he’s 0-2 when facing Elistratov during that stretch.

Pick: Igor Elistratov (-110).

Frolov-Shirokov Present Table Tennis Conundrum

Of late, Vladimir Shirokov has proven to be the man in meetings with Aleksandr Frolov. Overall, Shirokov has won three of his last four matches against Frolov.

Take it back a little further, and the pendulum swings toward Frolov. He’s won five of their last eight clashes and was the victor nine times over the past 13 meetings.

Over his past eight matches, Frolov is 3-5. He’s dropped seven of his last 12, including a 3-0 shutout loss to Shirokov in Sunday morning action. Frolov went 1-4 during the recent Boom Cup but he’s 2-1 through his last three Moscow Liga Pro matches.

Shirokov’s recent dominance against Frolov hasn’t carried over to other opponents. He’s just a middling 4-4 through his last eight matches but 2-0 against Frolov during that run.

Pick: Vladimir Shirokov (-150)

Shagarov Owns Serebrennikov

If basbeall guru Bill James opted to write a prospectus of Russian table tennis, Alexander Serebrennikov would rate as the loves to face opponent for many Moscow Liga Pro performers. Oleg Shagarov would certainly be included on that list.

Serebrennikov has lost three of his last 12 matches. Earlier this month, he endured a 29-match losing streak.

Oddly enough, all three of Serebrennikov’s wins over those 12 matches came at the expense of Andrey Pravednov. Certainly, it’s been awhile since Serebrennikov has tasted success against Shagarov.

Over their last 12 clashes, Shagarov’s record against Serebrennikov is unblemished. He’s 12-0. Shagarov has posted three shutout wins in that span. He’s won seven of their last nine games.

If Shagarov could only find that level of magic against literally anyone else. He’s 5-7 through his last 12 matches.

All five of those wins came against Serebrennikov.

Pick: Oleg Shagarov (-350).
