2020 Rocket Mortgage Classic Preview

The second edition of the Rocket Mortgage Classic tees off on Friday with a handful of the world’s top golfers descending upon the Detroit Golf Club in Michigan.

Following Dustin Johnson’s return to the winners circle last week at TPC River Highlands, golf bettors will again be looking to cash in on a few familiar names.

Bryson DeChambeau and last fortnight’s RBC Heritage Classic winner Webb Simpson look the main dangers, while Jason Day remains the top Australian chance.

If you fancy a bet this weekend, be sure to read our entire 2020 Rocket Mortgage Classic Preview below.

2020 Rocket Mortgage Classic Best Bet

Tyrell Hatton – $15.00

The Englishman is probably over the odds at the $15.00 quote considering he finished T3 a fortnight ago at Harbour Town.

Hatton also ranks second in strokes gained: putting and 10th in greens found during regulation, while it’s easy to forget he won the Arnold Palmer Invitational back in March.

All of that plus the added two week rest advantage spells a win.

2020 Rocket Mortgage Classic Best Value Bet

Hideki Matsuyama – $19.00

The World No. 23 missed the cut at Harbour Town two weeks back and has since enjoyed an extra week off to think about it.

Matsuyama has missed the cut only twice in the last calendar year, and he almost always bounces back with a huge performance immediately after.

T13 at this event last year and well overdue for a win.

2020 Rocket Mortgage Classic Best Roughie Bet

Brandt Snedeker – $41.00

Snedeker might be a sneaky chance this weekend if you fancy one at long odds.

The 39-year-old Tour veteran currently ranks Top 20 in strokes gained: putting and third in strokes gained: around-the-green.

Snedeker was also thereabouts earlier int he year finishing T3 at the Farmers Insurance Open, while a T5 at this event last year also puts him in good stead for a repeat performance.

2020 Rocket Mortgage Classic Field

Bryson DeChambeau – $7.00

The American is the only single-priced favourite in the market, and rightfully so.

He’s been in sparkling form since the restart carding three Top 10 performances following last week’s flawless T6 at TPC River Highlands.

DeChambeau ranks ninth in greens in regulation and eighth in birdie average, so it’s fair to say he’ll be winning something very, very soon.

Webb Simpson – $12.00

Simpson is well-rested following his outstanding victory at Harbour Town a fortnight ago, a worrying sign for the rest of the field.

The 34-year-old is well and truly in his prime and there’s everything to suggest he can easily win another tournament soon.

First in birdie average, first in scoring average, and most importantly, first in the FedEx Cup standings.

The Detroit Golf Club calls for precision around the greens rather than long drives, which should suit the American perfectly.

Patrick Reed – $15.00

Reed bounced back to finish inside the Top 30 at River Highlands last week after missing the cut at the RBC Heritage the week prior.

He gets a second look at the Detroit Golf Club after finishing T5 last year.

His putting has been the most consistent part of his game this year, which again translates to big things this weekend.

Viktor Hovland – $19.00

This years Puerto Rico Open champion finished T13 in his second pro start at this event last year and is easily one of the main dangers again coming off a Top 20 performance at TPC River Highlands last week.

The Norwegian ranks 12th in shots gained: approach the green, so you know he’s going to make full use of the wide-ish greens in Detroit.

If he can find some consistency with the putter, look out.

Sungjae Im – $23.00

It’s so easy to forget just how good the Korean is after a couple of rocky performances post restart.

The 2020 Honda Classic winner currently ranks third in the FedEx Cup standings and third in Top 10 finishes.

His putting doesn’t measure up to some of the other names in the field, but his ball-striking easily makes him one of the main dangers.
