Looking for a Back-to-Back

TY was on a mission back at GSL Season 3. He was nearly unbeatable as he cruised to the finals before putting together a very impressive showing to beat Maru.

As convincing as a tournament run as it was, winning consecutive tournaments in StarCraft is no easy feat. Especially with so many top tier players that stand in his way. TY should be able to get past his first-round match with Hurricane, but that’s where things get tricky.

In the second round, he’ll have to face ByuN or Dark, and the latter would be a difficult zerg matchup where TY has had some past struggles. There’s no denying the possibility that TY can find himself another win in 2020, but at +375, we’ll look elsewhere this time around.

Shot in the Dark

At +1400, Dark provides some exceptional value in Super Tournament II. It hasn’t been a noteworthy year for the zerg player, however, the reason why Dark is an intriguing option is because of his performance at GSL Super Tournament I way back in March. Dark 3-0’d all three of his opponents on the way to the finals. The only person who could slow him down was Maru, who just barely defeated Dark 4-3.

For whatever reason, the Super Tournament format brings out the best in Dark so don’t ignore him just because of his low odds to win. To give Dark even more confidence, his first-round opponent is ByuN who he already beat in the qualifying rounds of Super Tournament II.

Additional Value Picks

Behind TY, Maru, and Rogue, is Stats who currently sits at +650. Although he’s yet to lock down a first place finish in 2020, he’s been racking up consistent top 8 finishes in the second half of the year. Stats was 2nd at GSL Season 2, 3rd/4th at GSL Season 3, and once again 2nd at DreamHack Masters Winter.

Once again, he’ll be in the running to win it all, but he will likely have to find a way to beat INnoVation and Maru. Stats beat both of them at GSL Season 3, so at +650 he might be worth taking over a couple of the favorites.

Another Protoss player worth highlighting is Trap. All year long we’ve been wait for Trap to win a tournament, and as the year comes to an end, this might be his last opportunity to do so.

The upper side of the bracket is very likely to have a Protoss player make the semifinals, and in a mirror match, I’d favor Trap over the likes of sOs or Zest. The main threat in his way is of course TY, but if Dark is able to take him out, then the door is open for Trap to capitalize on.

Of the 16 players competing in GSL Super Tournament II, Dark is a fascinating pick that we can’t pass up at +1400.

Pick: Dark (+1500)
