Eagles, Giants and Football Team All Tied in NFC East Division Odds After Week 12

  • The New York Giants, Washington Football Team and Philadelphia Eagles are all +220 to win the NFC East
  • Washington is a team on the rise, ranking first in pass defense and top-five in pass rush productivity and sacks
  • Who’s the best bet to win the division?

Only two teams in NFL history have won their division with a losing record, but it certainly looks like the NFC East winner in 2020 will be the third. All four teams within the division have at least seven losses through 12 weeks, and even oddsmakers are having trouble figuring out a favorite.

Philadelphia entered the week with the shortest odds to win the NFC East crown, but after yet another abysmal performance on Monday night, they now have competition.

NFC East Odds

Team Odds to Win
New York Giants +220
Washington Football Team +220
Philadelphia Eagles +220
Dallas Cowboys +500

Odds taken Nov. 30th at BetMGM.

The Eagles, New York Giants and Washington Football Team all have the same price in the NFL Divisional Odds, followed by the Dallas Cowboys.

The Eagles price is surprising given how poorly they looked in Week 12, and the fact that they’re stuck in an ugly three-game losing streak.

What Happened to Wentz?

If wasn’t that long ago that Carson Wentz was a legitimate MVP candidate. His fifth season was supposed to be a breakout campaign, but instead it’s turned into a nightmare.

The $129 million dollar man leads the NFL in interceptions (15) and fumbles (10), and has taken a league-high 45 sacks. He ranks 32nd in completion percentage, 31st in yards per attempt and has thrown the most off target passes of any starting quarterback.

Philly has started to give first team reps to Jalen Hurts, and after Wentz’s performance in the Eagles 23-17 loss to the Seahawks, we could see the rookie sooner rather than later. Don’t let the final score fool you, as Philadelphia was never a threat to win that game. They didn’t record their first 1st down until 4:46 left in the second quarter, and up until the final minute of the contest they had produced less than 200 yards on offense.

Schedule makers haven’t done the Eagles any favors, as their next three opponents are the Green Bay Packers, New Orleans Saints and Arizona Cardinals. Philly will be an underdog in all three, and if they can’t find an upset somewhere their best case scenario will be a 5-10-1 season.

Giant Problems

New York is technically the division leader based on a tiebreak they own over Washington, but they have a few things working against them. Daniel Jones was forced out of Sunday’s game with a strained hamstring, an injury that will likely cost him at least New York’s Week 13 game versus Seattle.

Colt McCoy came on in relief for Jones against Cincinnati and would likely get the start in Seattle. The Giants were a long shot to win that game anyways, but starting McCoy decreases their odds even further. The former Texas Longhorns star hasn’t won an NFL game since 2014.

Also working against New York is its schedule. Their next four contests are versus the Seahawks, Cardinals, Cleveland Browns and Baltimore Ravens, four teams in the thick of the playoff chase. They do finish the season against the lowly Cowboys, but will likely need to split their next four to have a realistic chance at the division crown.

Washington Represents Value

Washington was utterly dominant in its 41-16 Thanksgiving Day thrashing of the Cowboys. They held Dallas to 247 yards, forced two turnovers, and racked up four sacks. The Football team boasts the NFL’s number one pass defense, and ranks top-5 in pass rush productivity and sacks.

They finally have stability under center with Alex Smith, and have a pair of exciting young skill position players. Terry McLaurin is an alpha wide receiver, while Antonio Gibson is the best rookie running back of the 2020 class.

After a three TD performance on Thanksgiving, he now has 11 rushing scores on the season, which ranks only behind Dalvin Cook and Derrick Henry.

Washington’s schedule down the stretch is tough, with games against the Pittsburgh Steelers, San Francisco 49ers and Seahawks looming, but they will catch the Steelers on a short week. Pittsburgh will have just four days rest before travelling to Washington, which should dramatically increase the Football Team’s chances of pulling off the upset.

Washington will square off with the Eagles in Week 17, and since they lost both games to New York, they’ll need to finish with a bettor record to claim the division crown.

Pick: Washington Football Team (+220)
