  • Read below for our game preview and betting pick

The Vegas Golden Knights will look to beat the Minnesota Wild for the first time in three meetings when the two teams face off at T-Mobile Arena on Thursday, April 1st. The surging Golden Knights are listed as heavy -175 favorites in a game that will be nationally televised on NBCSN.

Vegas has been getting incredible goaltending from veteran Marc-Andre Fleury this season, while rookies Kirill Kaprizov and Kaapo Kahkonen have been the story in Minnesota.

Will Vegas end its losing streak to Minnesota, or should you back the Wild as moneyline underdogs?

Golden Knights -175 -1.5 (+145) U 5.5 (-120)

Knights Surging

The Golden Knights are on an impressive 8-2-0 run after dropping consecutive games to the Wild on March 8th and March 10th. Vegas ranks top-10 in both offense and defense and have been getting Vezina-caliber goaltending from veteran Marc-Andre Fleury. The Golden Knights leads the West Division with a superb 24-8-1 record (49 pts).

Vegas may be winless in its two most recent meetings with Minnesota, but they beat the Wild twice earlier in the season and were without captain Mark Stone and defenseman Alex Pietrangelo in the recent clash. Stone has established himself as one of the league’s best two-way forwards and is back healthy, while Pietrangelo is nearing a return from his lower-body injury.

The Knights have done at excellent job at limiting opposing offenses this season, allowing just 27.3 shots per game on average. Even when the high-danger chances do present themselves, the elite goalie tandem of Fleury and Robin Lehner have been there to shut the door.

Wild Chasing Playoff Berth

Minnesota is looking to return to the NHL playoffs for the first time since 2017-18 after losing to the Canucks in the qualifiers last season. The Wild are led by rookie standout Kirill Kaprizov and currently occupy third spot in the West Division with 44 points through 33 games.

Kaprizov is the favorite in the Calder Trophy odds with 27 points on the season, but rookie goaltender Kaapo Kahkonen has also played a big role in his team’s success. The 24-year-old Finnish netminder has won nine of his past 10 starts and ranks top-15 in the NHL with a .921 save percentage.

The Wild have feasted on the weak teams in the West such as Anaheim and Los Angeles, but they’ve struggled to shutdown elite offenses. The Wild have been outscored 23-13 in six games against the Avalanche this year and surrendered five goals in back-to-back losses against Vegas in early March.

What’s the Best Bet?

Vegas and Minnesota both have games Wednesday night, which makes the goalie situation key in this back-to-back scenario. Vegas’ Fleury is getting the nod against LA, which means it’ll likely be Lehner vs the Wild. The former Vezina finalist has looked great since returning from a concussion, winning three straight games and allowing just four goals in the process.

The youngster Kahkonen is starting in goal for Minnesota vs San Jose on Wednesday which means it’ll likely be Cam Talbot against VGK. The former Flames’ netminder is having a strong season with a .925 save percentage, but he was in the crease for the two prior ugly losses against Vegas and owns a lackluster .875 all-time save percentage vs the Knights.

The Golden Knights are 4-0 in the second half of back-to-backs this season and are 6-0 at T-Mobile Arena since fans were allowed back in the building. Minnesota will be playing its third game in four nights and have struggled away from home with four consecutive road losses. Back the Vegas powerhouse to continue its home dominance with a convincing victory over a tired Wild squad.

Pick: Golden Knights -1.5 (+145)
