Kah’s Rise To Prominence No Surprise To Boss

Jamie Kah’s incredible rise to prominence over the past 12 months has taken many industry insiders by surprise, but not fellow hoop Glen Boss.

Boss has revealed, in the Ladbrokes Group 1 Year In Review series, that he identified Kah as a serious talent when she was a teenager at apprentice school and it has come as no shock to him that Kah has been able to dominate the Australian riding ranks this season.

“I use to go to Adelaide at least twice a year to go to the apprentice school and I’ve seen her as a 15-year-old and a 16-year-old kid,” Boss said.

“I used to walk away, and this is no word of a lie, and I’d say I think I’ve seen a star.

“I said that this kid is something special.

“There was just something about her.

“When I spoke at these meetings, she would never take her eyes off you and always wanted to stay and talk after it.

“When I got her on the pusher on the horse you could just see something different about her.

“She had great balance and she had a great background because she has been riding for a long time.”

Boss, who has previously labeled James McDonald as the most talented jockey he has ever seen, was brimming in his praise for Kah and believes she is right up there with the most naturally gifted horse people that he has ever seen.

“What makes these people special. It’s just a talent that can’t be taught. They’ve just got it,” Boss said.

“And they come along every now and then and she is just one of them.

“It’s just her amazing flow on a horse.

“She never seems to be in trouble, she never seems to be in a hurry and horses just seem to be quickening at the right time and they seem to be doing it easily underneath her.”

Champion trainer Peter Moody has had plenty of success with Kah in recent weeks and they will combine again on Saturday at Flemington with Forbidden City in the Taj Rossi Series Final.

Moody named Kah’s rise to prominence as the biggest story of the 2020/2021 racing season and he believes Kah has the ability to bring a whole new audience to the sport.

“Her sellable point to racing and to the outside public is enormous,” Moody said.

“That’s going to attract females to the sport and we need their input and their interest in racing as well as their expertise.

“What better way to do it than to have a female plying her trade, but not only plying it doing it at the top level.”
