Suns 2021 Championship Odds Shorten to -195 After Game 6 Win vs Clippers to Secure Spot in NBA Finals

  • The Phoenix Suns are -195 favorites to win the NBA championship after beating the Los Angeles Clippers in the Western Conference final
  • The Suns will face either the Atlanta Hawks or Milwaukee Bucks in The Finals
  • A look at the Suns’ title chances can be found below along with wagering advice

The Phoenix Suns are headed to the NBA Finals for the first time since 1993 as they continue their quest for a championship that has eluded the franchise since its inception in 1969.

The Suns won the Western Conference Finals on Wednesday night with a convincing 130-103 victory over the Clippers in Los Angeles, taking the best-of-seven series 4-2.

In The Finals, the Suns will face the winner of the Eastern Conference finals between the Atlanta Hawks and Milwaukee Bucks. That series is tied 2-2.

The Suns’ odds of winning it all also improved following Wednesday’s impressive performance, going from -130 to -195.

Paul Leads the Way

Chris Paul led the Suns to the clinching victory over the Clippers with 41 points, eight assists and three steals. He made 16 of 24 field goal attempts, including 7-for-8 from three-point range.

This marks the first Finals trip in Paul’s stellar 16-year career. He has been an All-NBA selection 10 times and chosen to 11 All-Star Games.

Devin Booker added 22 points despite going 1-for-7 from beyond the arc. Jae Crowder added 19 points and Deandre Ayton finished with 16 points on 8-of-10 shooting and 17 rebounds.

The Suns shot 56.4% from the floor, 54.8% on threes and outrebounded the Clippers 58-40.

Squeaked by Bucks

The Suns swept the regular season series from the Bucks, winning both games by one point – 125-124 on Feb. 10 in Phoenix as a four-point underdog and 128-127 in overtime April 19 at Milwaukee as a three-point dog.

Devin Booker led the Suns with 30 points in the first matchup and Chris Paul added 28. That overcame a 47-point effort by the Bucks’ Giannis Antetokounmpo.

In the rematch, Booker made the game-winning free throw with 0.1 seconds remaining in OT. He finished with 24 points and Paul had 22 points and 13 assists while Antetokounmpo paced the Bucks with 33 points.

Antetokounmpo is doubtful for Game 5 of the East final because of a hyperextended left knee sustained in Game 4 on Tuesday.

Split with Hawks

The Suns and Hawks split their two games with each team winning at home – Phoenix 117-110 on March 30 as a 5.5-point favorite and Atlanta 135-103 on May 5 as a 1-point choice.

Booker led a balanced attack in the Suns’ win with 21 points, while Dario Saric added 20 and Crowder contributed 19. Bogdan Bogdanovic led the Hawks with 22 points.

In the loss at Atlanta, Booker scored a game-high 30 points, but it wasn’t enough to keep the Suns from being blown out. The Hawks shot a smoking 63.1% and had seven players score at least 13 points, led by Clint Capela’s 18 points and 10 rebounds and Trae Young’s 16 points and 12 assists.

Young (bone bruise in right ankle) and Capela (right eye inflammation) are both questionable for Game 5 against the Bucks.

Suns Team to Beat

Considering the Suns will have home-court advantage in the Finals and both remaining teams in the East have injury issues, the oddsmakers seem to be on target by making Phoenix the favorite to win its first-ever championship.

The Suns (51-21) had a better record in the regular season than the Hawks (41-31) and Bucks (46-26). Phoenix is the better team even if Atlanta has Young and Milwaukee has Antetokounmpo.

The Suns are the play to make, even if they do not present great value at -195.
