Elina Svitolina vs Ons Jabeur Odds & Prediction – Chicago Fall Tennis Classic Quarterfinals

  • Top seed Elina Svitolina battles 6th-seed Ons Jabeur in the quarterfinals of the Chicago Fall Classic
  • Jabeur has 42 wins on the season, the second-highest total on the WTA tour
  • Read below for odds, analysis and our betting prediction

Tunisian Ons Jabeur has stacked a ton of wins this season.

Getting one in the quarterfinals at the Chicago Fall Classic would tie her for the season-lead, and put her two away from her second career WTA title.

It won’t be easy, as she’ll face the tournament top seed Elina Svitolina.

Svitolina ranked sixth in the world, will be looking for her second title in Chicago in three tournaments, and she’s the favorite to dispatch Jabeur Friday.

Action is slated to get underway at 10:00 am ET on Friday. The Tennis Channel is carrying all the action from the tournament.

Svitolina Sharp

The last tournament we saw the Ukrainian star, she was caught in the Leylah Fernandez buzz saw at the US Open, falling to the Canadian teen upstart in a thrilling three-set quarterfinal loss.

Svitolina has looked sharp so far though, in the same city where she won the WTA Chicago Women’s Open at the end of August.

After an opening round bye, she’s dispatched Amanda Anisimova and Elena-Gabriela Ruse in straight sets.

Svitolina has had her serve broken three times in two matches, but she’s been hitting first: she’s won better than 70% of her first serve points in both matches.

Despite a 38-17 record this season, which included an Olympic bronze medal in Tokyo, Svitolina will be looking to make just her fifth semifinal of the year.

Jabeur Don’t Stop

Even a stunning wake-up time Thursday couldn’t stop Ons Jabeur from advancing in Chicago.

She was up at 6:30 am ET to prepare for her 9:00 am ET match with Jessica Pegula and it showed, dropping the first set 6-1 before rallying to win the next two sets 6-2, 6-3.

It was her first career win against the American and avenged her earlier loss this summer in Montreal, when she served for the match at 5-4, eventually dropping the game, the set, and the match in three sets.

It was season win number 42 on the year, second only to Russian Aryna Sabalenka’s 43 W’s on the campaign.  All those matches have upped her to a career-best 16th in the WTA rankings.

Still, Jabeur is working to break through to the tournament end games. A win in Chicago would mark just her fourth semifinal appearance on the year in six quarterfinal appearances.

Head-to-Head

Jabeur will be looking for her first career win against an opponent in consecutive matches. This will be their fourth meeting, and their third straight on hard courts.

Svitolina has a 3-0 record against the Tunisian, the most recent in Dubai in 2019. The second-round match ended with Jabeur retiring down a set and 4-0. They also faced each other in 2017 in a quarterfinal match Taipei City, with Svitolina needing three sets — and a tiebreaker in the third — to advance.

They also met in 2012 at the 25k La Marsa in the semifinals. This match was on clay, and the Ukrainian dispatched Jabeur 6-2, 6-1.

What’s the Best Bet?

Part of Svitolina’s strength is the ability to extend rallies with strong defense, either forcing an error or working her way into a position of power where she can dictate.

I think Jabeur will carry the momentum of her first career win over Pegula into Friday and make this a contest, but the top seed advances and keeps her at 42 wins.

Pick: Svitolina (-135) & OVER 21.5 (-115).
