Great Grand Final Moments

What a cracker of a game last week in the AFL grand final. Well, maybe not if you’re a Dogs supporter…

Highlight of the game for us was Petracca’s grubber goal from the sideline. He’s unreal.

This week we are looking at some other HUGE moments in grand finals.

We’ll include AFL obviously, but with the NRL grand final being on Sunday (hopefully) it would be rude not to discuss the great game of Rugba Leeg.

Greg Inglis’ Goanna Crawl – South Sydney V Bulldogs 2014

After a 43-year drought, the South Sydney Rabbitohs won the 2014 premiership against the Bulldogs in what was a demolition.

With a couple minutes left to go, GI broke through the Dogs defense to put the icing on the cake.

His signature goanna celebration was well received by Souths fans and teammates alike and will be etched in Rugby League memories forever.

Leo Barry You Star – Sydney V West Coast 2005

Leo Barry, what a mark! What a time to bring out your career best moment, in the dying moments of the 2005 Grand Final.

It was a grinding affair, with the Swans having a 4-point lead inside the last minute of play.

Dean Cox from West Coast rolled onto his left to put the Eagles in an attacking position inside 50 with what was to be the last play of the game.

Enter leaping Leo, who drifted in front of a pack of 9 blokes to take the cleanest, most clutch pack mark you’d ever hope to see.

The siren sounded soon thereafter & the Swans were Premiers for the first time in 72 years.

Scott Sattler’s Bootlaces Try-saver – Penrith V Roosters 2003

Will we see a moment as special as this from the Panthers on Sunday?

It would have to be top draw stuff.

When Roosters’ winger Todd Byrne made a break down the sideline, he looked certain to score.

It was a pivotal moment of the match.

Enter Scotty Sattler. The big lock made a B-Line for the winger, chased him down, tackled him around his legs and dragged his ankles over the sideline. Unbelievable.

Dom Sheed – West Coast v Collingwood 2018

How about this bloke living out a childhood dream?

The Eagles went coast to coast in the final 2 minutes of the game, with Dom Sheed taking a grab on the boundary line about 30 metres out.

He proceeded to nail the goal and the Eagles snatched a thriller.

Legend has it he hasn’t paid for a beer since he kicked the goal, which is more than fair enough. What a guy.

JT’s Field Goal – Cowboys V Broncos 2015

After the Cowboys scored in the last play of the game, JT had to kick one from the sideline to win the game.

He hit the post.

Time for golden point. JT nails the field goal to deliver North Queensland their maiden premiership. You honestly couldn’t script it.

Greatest grand final of all time? We think so.

This list wouldn’t be complete without an honourable mention to Benji Marshall’s magical flick pass in the 2005 grand final. Let’s see if he can win another one 16 years’ later!
