Daily Racing Tips – Tuesday 1st February

Stony Creek - Race 5 3:30pm AEDT

No. 3 Handful

Handful is having his fourth run back and looks set to peak out over 2000m for the second time.

The son of Dundeel failed to make up any ground in his last start at Cranbourne, but he should find this a touch easier dropping back in grade.

The runner-up from that race went on to win at Geelong last week, and he should be plenty fit at this stage of his prep.

Stony Creek - Race 6 4:00pm AEDT

No. 1 Xingyun

Xingyun was a narrow winner over the mile two back at Colac and returns on the quick backup after a luckless run in transit last week at Kilmore.

The Feek-trained galloper copped some interference early on and never really settled, but getting fitter, this does look a nice race for him to atone fourth-up.

The five-year-old has missed the frame only three times from seven starts over 1600m, and he has run some good races on the short backup previously.

Stony Creek - Race 7 4:30pm AEDT

No. 3 Sequalus

Sequalus strips fitter for two runs back and should find this a touch easier than her most recent start at Caulfield.

The Magnus mare finished well down the straight raced wide and struck some traffic at the top of the straight, a run she can certainly improve on though dropping back in grade.

She was enormous the start prior when just missing out on the major spoils narrow at Yarra Valley, and with a win to her name third-up, I’m confident she can bounce back.

Stony Creek - Race 8 5:00pm AEDT

No. 8 Prince Of Mercia

Prince Of Mercia looks ready to win now with Jamie Kah sticking.

The pair finished a clear second to Midwest at Caulfield three weeks ago, a form line that rates highly with the aforementioned horse going on to win at The Valley on Saturday.

He’s clearly best suited over this trip, and he should be afforded a lovely run off the speed.
