Ladbrokes Park Preview – Wednesday 2nd February

Eight races will be run and won at Ladbrokes Park Sandown on Wednesday, February 2nd.

The rail will be set out four metres around the entire course and at publish, we’re faced with a track rated in the Good (4) range.

Race 1 - 3:40pm AEDT

Ladbroke It! Handicap (1300m)

Just one of the seven confirmed starters in the first at Ladbrokes Park on Wednesday has raceday experience, and there are several debutants prominent in the market.

I am happy to stay out of this one, with a view towards something later in the season.

Race 2 - 4:15pm AEDT

Ladbrokes Switch Plate (1400m)

I thought that there was a lot to like about Healing Game’s late work on debut, and he can break his maiden at Ladbrokes Park on Wednesday.

The Tivaci gelding was settled at the tail of the field by Ethan Brown at Cranbourne last month, and he mustered an eye-catching turn of foot to fill the minors.

He’ll enjoy plenty of improvement for that effort and he can settle closer to the speed today from barrier 3.

Race 3 - 4:50pm AEDT

Ladbrokes Blended Bets Handicap (1400m)

Murrami Express has improved with each start back from a spell, and he is ready to strike under Jamie Kah at Ladbrokes Park on Wednesday.

The Danny O’Brien-trained gelding finished third, beaten a length and a half by Squid Game at Flemington first-up from a spell, and he has only just missed at his two subsequent starts, both here at Sandown.

He steps out today in peak order, he is drawn to receive a lovely run and he might not be offered a better opportunity to win.

Race 4 - 5:25pm AEDT

Ladbrokes Blended Multis Handicap (1200m)

Grinzinger Prince faces a rise in class at Ladbrokes Park this week, but he couldn’t have been more impressive when resuming, and this does look the next logical target.

The More Than Ready gelding was spelled after filling the minors at Morphettville in September, and completed an ideal return to the races at the Yarra Valley last month.

He too is drawn to receive a lovely run in transit and we can have an each-way play at around the $10 mark.

Race 5 - 6pm AEDT

Stud And Stable Staff Awards Handicap (3000m)

This is one of, if not the most open race on Wednesday’s program at Ladbrokes Park and there is a case to be made for several gallopers, including Blandford Lad.

Blandford Lad has performed consistently throughout his busy preparation, and these midweek staying tests look to be about his level.

He takes his place in Wednesday’s contest following a credible effort for fourth over 3000m at Cranbourne, and what is perhaps key this week is that we know he’ll get the trip.

Race 6 - 6:30pm AEDT

Ladbrokes Money Back Odds Handicap (1600m)

This is another quality race with several key winning chances, but I am going to stick with Double Chance third-up.

Double Chance returned to the races to finish third, beaten a length and a half here at Ladbrokes Park last month, and he was less than half a length from the winner last time.

Getting out to a mile this week should prove ideal, he gets into this race well under Craig Williams and he looks a touch of overs in my opinion at around $9.

Race 7 - 7pm AEDT

Ladbrokes Same Race Multi Handicap (1400m)

Umgawa has been game in defeat in a couple of races at Flemington since resuming, and he is primed to strike at Ladbrokes Park this week.

The three-year-old son of Shamus Award has been a strong and consistent performer since debuting, and he stamped himself as a galloper to follow last time in, ending his prep second behind River Views in the VOBIS Gold Ingot.

He clearly has plenty of ability and this looks the perfect opportunity for him to bounce back into the winner’s stall.

Race 8 - 7:30pm AEDT

Ladbrokes Fast Withdrawals Handicap (1200m)

Minouche hasn’t turned in a poor effort since debuting, and I am happy to stick with her in the last at Ladbrokes Park this week.

Minouche stamped herself as a filly to follow with a nice effort for second on debut at Canterbury in December, and she broke her maiden in style at Newcastle on Boxing Day.

Since then, she has finished second behind Jillette over 1100m at Caulfield, and she steps out this week in peak order.
