Randwick-Kensington Preview – Wednesday 2nd February

Randwick-Kensington will host Sydney’s metro program on Wednesday, February 2nd, and seven races are on the card.

The rail will be left in the true position around the entire course and at publish, we’re faced with a track rated in the Good (4) range.

Race 1 - 2:20pm AEDT

Vinery Plate (1100m)

Devil’s Throat takes his place in this field second-up, and following a close-up second placing in the Magic Millions Maiden.

Off that run and on exposed form he is clearly the one to beat, but the $1.70 about him at publish is too short for me, and I am happy to watch.

Race 2 - 2:55pm AEDT

Maiden Plate (1000m)

I was quite impressed with Himalaism’s debut performance, and he can break his maiden at Randwick-Kensington on Wednesday.

Himalaism showed ability at the trials prior to debuting, and he returned an eye-catching effort for third behind Fireburn in a Saturday race on the main course here at Randwick.

He’s six weeks between starts, but he has been back to the trials and he will be ridden on Wednesday by James McDonald.

Race 3 - 3:30pm AEDT

Ranvet Handicap (1400m)

Jawaani is another galloper that looks capable of striking at her second career start this week.

Jawaani had five trials prior to her competitive debut, and she raced home well to fill the minors at Newcastle last month.

I’m expecting plenty of improvement for that experience, and she too is boosted by the booking of James McDonald.

Race 4 - 4:05pm AEDT

China Horse Club Handicap – Rising Star (1550m)

The consistent Bedford Square takes her place in Race 4 at Randwick-Kensington on Wednesday, and she is primed to strike.

The Tavistock mare broke her maiden in style at Wyong second-up in November, and she is unlucky not to have recorded another win in three subsequent starts, finishing second on each occasion.

She has found form around some notable gallopers, she’s rock-hard fit, and she looks up to winning something of this quality.

Race 5 - 4:40pm AEDT

Stud And Stable Staff Awards Handicap (1800m)

Daysan hasn’t been seen at the races since September, but he was impressive during his spring prep, and he can make a winning return at Randwick-Kensington this week.

The five-year-old son of Temple City recorded consecutive wins at Hawkesbury and Newcastle most notably, and he too found some around some handy gallopers.

He’s had the benefit of a couple of trials leading up to this return, and we can have an each-way play at around the $8 mark.

Race 6 - 5:15pm AEDT

Harry Angel First Yearlings Handicap (1400m)

Easy Campese has opened favourite in betting for the penultimate race in Sydney on Wednesday, but I am confident that Rejoiced is the one to beat.

Rejoiced has made just four appearances at the races so far, but he has hardly put a hoof wrong, winning on three occasions.

He bounced back from his first career defeat with a lovely win at Wyong last time, and this looks a great opportunity to transition into metro company.

5 Units Rejoiced

Race 7 - 5:50pm AEDT

Davali Handicap (1000m)

This isn’t the easiest way to end the day from a betting perspective, but I am a fan of Duchess, and she looks to be a key winning chance at around the $8 mark.

Duchess was a consistent performer in metro company last time in, and record an impressive win in BM72 here most notably.

She’ll take plenty of improvement from her first-up hit-out, her second-up record is good and she’s another whom we can back each-way.
