Probable Pitchers

Houston will send righty Luis Garcia to the mound, while the Jays will counter with Jose Berriors. Garcia was shelled this past Sunday by Toronto, giving up five hits, five runs, and two homers over 6 innings.

It marked the second straight outing that he’s struggled in, and he’s now coughed up eight runs and three homers in his past 11+ innings of work. He’s never pitched at the Rogers Center, and he could be in a for a rude awakening given his form and the fact that it’s one of the most hitter friendly parks.

Garcia vs Berrios Stats

Luis Garcia
VS
Jose Berrios
1-1 Record 1-0
4.60 ERA 4.91
0.96 WHIP 1.58
.196 OBA .289
3.5 SO/W Ratio 2.1

Berrios meanwhile, has been excellent in past two outings yielding only three runs over 13 total innings. The strong consecutive starts were desperately needed, after he opened the season by allowing nine hits and seven runs in his 5.1 innings of work.

The 27-year-old posted an impressive 2021 campaign split between Minnesota and Toronto, and was lights out in his lone start last year against the Astros. Berrios, a longshot AL Cy Young odds contender, pitched 7 innings en route to a victory, allowing just two runs and five hits.

Astros vs Blue Jays Betting Analysis

One marquee Houston batter Berrios won’t have to face is Jose Altuve, who’s currently on a rehab assignment. The Astros’ lineup came to life on Friday, but that hasn’t been the case for the majority of the season. They’ve scored more than four runs just five times, and entered the weekend averaging only 3.8 runs per game while ranking below league average in slugging and OPS.

Toronto on the other hand, has dangerous bats up and down the lineup, with former Astro George Springer and AL MVP odds candidate Vladimir Guerrero Jr. leading the charge.

Entering Friday, the Blue Jays led MLB in home runs, and ranked top-four in batting average, slugging and OPS. Springer and Guerrero might be Toronto’s most dangerous hitters , but this lineup can burn you 1 through 9.

Astros vs Blue Jays Pick

Given the discrepancy between how these two teams have swung the bat this season, Friday night notwithstanding, you have to like Toronto, especially at home. The Blue Jays have massive home-road splits, batting .261, with a .442 slugging percentage and .771 OPS at the Rogers Center this season, compared to a .230 average, with a .373 slugging percentage and .602 OPS on the road.

Toss in the fact that Berriors’ stock is rising while Garcia’s is falling, and it all adds up to a Blue Jays bet on Saturday afternoon.

Pick: Toronto Blue Jays Moneyline (-140)
