Daily Racing Tips – Monday 1st August

Pakenham - Race 2 12:35pm AEST

No. 3 Over Boost

Over Boost is a last-start winner that looks capable of taking the next step now for trainer Paul Gorman.

The lightly-raced five-year-old went around at long odds over the track and distance last month where he led all the way to win by an impressive margin.

His first-up run the start prior is worth forgiving after racing four-wide, and this really doesn’t look that much tougher. Drawn low and with the claim, he’s a nice price.

Pakenham - Race 8 3:30pm AEST

No. 9 Moon Yanco

Moon Yanco gets her first look at 1400m after pulling up lame over shorter on the same surface at Ballarat last-start.

She was an impressive winner of her maiden the run prior when winning by over two lengths, form that stacks up nicely with both place-getters going on to win more recently.

The way she finished off last time out suggested she might be looking for further now, and given she’s only missed the money once from seven starts, I’m happy to have her on top.

Pakenham - Race 9 4:00pm AEST

No. 1 Hilverston

Hilverston is a much better horse than his recent run over the track and trip suggests.

The Clinton McDonald-trained five-year-old was caught wide in transit and simply spent too much petrol trying to make up ground down the straight.

He was a narrow winner the start prior though, and this is a big step back in class. He’s got an awkward gate to contend with, but his record on this surface makes him a good value bet at the current quote.

Pakenham - Race 10 4:30pm AEST

No. 8 Tatsuro

Tatsuro has been a frustrating horse to follow at times, but his best is certainly good enough to win this.

The four-year-old son of Maurice finally shed his maiden tag two back thanks to a brilliant steer from Billy Egan, and he was far from disgraced last-start when only tiring late over the final 100m.

He’s hard fit now at this stage of his prep and has drawn to find cover with Egan back in the saddle.
