F1 action returns to Singapore for the first time in three years with this weekend’s running of the 2022 Singapore Grand Prix. Cancelled in each of the past two years due to the Covid-19 pandemic, this year’s edition of the race takes on special significance. Currently enjoying a huge 126-point lead over his closest rival Charles Leclerc in the F1 Drivers Standings, Red Bull’s Max Verstappen arrives in Singapore poised to clinch a second straight F1 championship with a win on Sunday.

Verstappen also leads the way as a strong -190 favorite to claim a sixth straight checkered flag. Leclerc sits second at +400, while Lewis Hamilton rounds out the front of the pack as a high-value +850 bet to claim a fifth career Singapore Grand Prix win.

Here’s a look at all the odds and trends ahead of Sunday morning’s running of the 2022 Singapore Grand Prix at 9:00am ET at Marina Bay Street Circuit.

Verstappen in a Class by Himself

It is difficult to overstate just how dominant Max Verstappen has been this season. In addition to owning the fifth longest race win streak in F1 history, Verstappen has also reached the podium 13 times this season, including 11 victories.

With Singapore bowing out of the F1 circuit over the past two seasons, we have yet to see vintage Max on the track at Marina Bay Street Circuit. However, he has managed to reach the podium on two of his five previous occasions at this event. And given the pace he has displayed of late, it is tough to overlook the 24-year-old, even as a short -190 bet to match Lewis Hamilton’s career-best six-race win streak.

As for Hamilton, Singapore represents a real shot a breakthrough for the seven-time F1 champion, who has yet to claim a checkered flag this season. Mercedes has reached the top of the podium in four of the past six editions of this race, with Hamilton earning the win in two of the past three. For the faint of heart not willing to jump on Hamilton’s +850 odds, value exists in his -105 odds of reaching the podium for the seventh time this season.

Race for Second Place Heating Up

With Verstappen all but assured of wrapping up a second straight F1 title at some point over the final five rounds of the season, attention now turns to who will follow him in second place in the F1 Drivers Standings. In the wake of podium finishes in each of his past two outings, Charles Leclerc has reclaimed the No. 2 spot in the Standings, and leads the way with -250 odds to finish the season in second. However, it has been a roller coaster campaign for Leclerc, who has lost valuable ground as a result of his own bad driving decisions, and a host of technical and communications problems at Ferrari.

Indeed, the best value in the odds to finish second in the F1 Drivers Standings current belong to George Russell, who is pegged at +400. Russell has impressed in his debut season at Mercedes despite not yet claiming his first career checkered flag. The talented Englishman has been a model of consistency throughout the campaign, finishing among the top five in 15 of the 16 races he has finished, including seven trips to the podium.

Singapore Grand Prix Picks & Predictions

However, F1 betting fans who watched last season’s battle for the title come down to the final race know never to underestimate Hamilton. Indeed, the 38-year-old Briton appeared to be out of contention as the 2021 season reached its late stages, but came within a whisker of knocking of Verstappen by finishing top two in each of his six outings. Considering that track record, and his current late-season resurgence, Hamilton should not be overlooked as a lucrative +1600 bet to erase the current 51-point deficit separating him from Leclerc.

The Picks: Max Verstappen to win (-190); Lewis Hamilton podium finish (-105); Hamilton to finish second in F1 Drivers Standings (+1600
