After a 44-6 slaughtering of #19 Kentucky, Tennessee is firmly entrenched in the National Championship conversation. Elsewhere, Michigan took home the Paul Bunyan trophy with a dominate 29-7 victory over Michigan State.

Volunteers Keep Pace in National Championship Picture

Hendon Hooker and the Tennessee offense can’t be stopped. At this point, fans and players alike expect the Volunteers to score every time they touch the football.

Hooker bolstered his Heisman Trophy odds, totaling four touchdowns and looking absolutely brilliant operating Josh Heupel’s offense. If Hooker is the best player in the country, receiver Jalin Hyatt isn’t far behind. Hyatt was once again unguardable on Saturday night. The junior receiver torched the Wildcats secondary to the tune of five catches for 138 yards and two touchdowns.

On the other side of the football, Tennessee’s defense needs to be talked about more. The Volunteers defense jumped all over Kentucky quarterback Will Levis from the beginning of the game. Tennessee’s pass-rush harried and harassed Levis all night.  The projected first-round NFL draft pick was held to just 98 passing yards and was picked off three times in the victory.

With the win, Tennessee set up a showdown with no. 1 Georgia next Saturday. For the first time since their National Championship in 1998, the Volunteers are locked in as a top 3 team in the country. Week 10  will have massive implications in both the SEC and 2022-23 National Championship race. At +1200 in the National Championship odds, bettors will want to lock in their Tennessee tickets today.

Paul Bunyan Returns to Ann Arbor

Jim Harbaugh’s Michigan rolled over in-state rival Michigan State on Saturday night. After losing two straight to Michigan State, the Wolverines exacted a modicum of revenge with the win.

The Wolverines had nearly 100,000 fans screaming all night at the Big House. Michigan scored 26 straight points after falling behind late in the first quarter. Michigan running back Blake Corum dominated proceedings. Corum had his way with the Spartans defense, totalling 177 yards and two touchdowns to lead his team to victory.

As the above dictates, Corum is as elusive as any player in the sport right now. The junior running back has torched every defense he’s seen so far this year, and is the key to Michigan’s National Championship hopes. Defenses have continually tried and failed to corral Corum and stop the Wolverines rushing attack.

With match-ups versus no.17 Illinois and “The Game” against Ohio State looming, Michigan has everything to play for in the Big Ten. If the Wolverines can continue to pound the rock like this, they represent excellent value at +1600 in the 2022-23 National Championship odds.
