  • The AFC North Wraps up Week 8 as the Bengals (4-3) visit the Browns (2-5)
  • 2022 Record: 6-6, -0.47 units; Monday Night Football record: 3-3, -0.2 units
  • See the Bengals vs Browns odds ahead of Monday night

As we approach the halfway point of the NFL season, the AFC North is a two-team race.

All due respect to the Steelers and Browns, but both were sitting at 2-5 entering Week 8. Baltimore won on Thursday night so the Ravens are 5-3. The Cincinnati Bengals need to win on Monday night to keep pace.

The good news is that the Bengals draw the Browns to close out Week 8 on ESPN. Kick off is set for 8:15 pm ET from FirstEnergy Stadium, but it’ll be cool and breezy with rain in the forecast.

Bengals vs Browns Odds

Team Moneyline Spread Total
Cincinnati Bengals -175 -3.0 (-120) Ov 45.0 (-112)
Cleveland Browns +140 +3.0 (-105) Un 45.0 (-109)

This game may take place on Halloween, but there are no tricks or treats with the odds. The Bengals are road favorites, but aren’t as heavily favored as some may expect. Regardless, Vegas is expecting a tight divisional tilt.

That spread may change a bit ahead of Monday night, however. NFL public betting trends are swaying heavily in favor of Cincy. The Bengals are getting over 80% of the bets and money when it comes to covering, and nearly the same to win outright.

Bengals vs Browns Injury Report

There is one significant injury for the Bengals ahead of this game, and it’s the hip injury to Ja’Marr Chase. Head coach Zac Taylor already said the star wideout won’t be placed on Injured Reserve, but there isn’t a ton of news other than that.

ESPN is reporting the hip injury will keep Chase sidelined four-to-six weeks.

Week 8 Injury Report

Bengals Injury, Status Browns Injury, Status
Ja’Marr Chase, WR Hip, OUT Pharaoh Brown, TE Concussion/Neck, Questionable
Stanley Morgan, WR Hamstring, OUT Joe Haeg, T Concussion, OUT
Josh Tupou, DT Calf, OUT Greg Newsome II, CB Oblique, Questionable
Eli Apple, CB Hamstring, Doubtful David Njoku, TE Ankle, OUT
N/A N/A Jeremiah Owusu-Joramoah, LB Knee, Questionable
N/A N/A Wyatt Teller, G Calf, OUT
N/A N/A Denzel Ward, CB Concussion, OUT
N/A N/A Greedy Williams, CB Illness, Questionable

The Browns are banged up at a few spots.

David Njoku will miss Monday night as the tight end is sidelined by ankle injury. Cleveland will also be missing guard Wyatt Teller and cornerback Denzel Ward.

Jeremiah Owusu-Koramoah and Greg Newsome II are also listed as questionable, while Myles Garrett wasn’t included on the final report. He did miss two practices with shoulder and bicep injuries early in the week.

Bengals vs Browns Head-to-Head

This will be the 98th matchup between these two, with a slight advantage to the Bengals (51-46).

Despite that, things have not been going the Bengals way lately.

Bengals vs Browns: Last Five Games

Date Away Team Home Team Final Score Line O/U
Dec 29, 2019 Cleveland Browns Cincinnati Bengals CIN 33-23 CLE -2.5 44.0 (OVER)
Sept 17, 2020 Cincinnati Bengals Cleveland Browns CLE 35-30 CLE -6.0 44.5 (OVER)
Oct 5, 2020 Cleveland Browns Cincinnati Bengals CLE 37-34 CLE -4.5 50.0 (OVER)
Nov 7, 2021 Cleveland Browns Cincinnati Bengals CLE 41-16 CIN -2.5 47.5 (OVER)
Jan 9, 2022 Cincinnati Bengals Cleveland Browns CLE 21-16 CLE -5.5 37.0 (PUSH)

The Bengals haven’t beaten the Browns since 2019.

Despite the one-sided results however, Joe Burrow has done nothing but eat against the Browns. Burrow’s worst game was a 282-yard, two interception effort in that loss last November. The two games before that? Burrow popped off for 406 yards and three TDs (one rushing), and a three-touchdown, 316 yard game before that.

Despite the fact we won’t be seeing Ja’Marr Chase in this one, we shouldn’t be expecting a slow down from Burrow. A healthy Tee Higgins and Tyler Boyd give him more than enough options, especially against a Cleveland secondary that’s hurting.

And if Burrow is running the Browns’ defense up and down the field? Then it’s whether or not you believe Jacoby Brissett can keep pace or Nick Chubb can control the clock.

Bengals vs Browns Pick

The fact is, the Bengals are in a different class than the Browns. And barring anything spooky, things should go fairly smoothly on Monday night.

The one thing that could throw a wrench into things is just how well Chubb is able to run it, and if that puts the pressure on Burrow’s offense. But they shouldn’t have any problems of their own and, division game or not, this should be an easy cover.

The Pick: Cincinnati Bengals -3.0 (-110); 1 unit
