2022 Pakenham Cup Day Preview

Feature racing in Victoria heads to Pakenham this Saturday afternoon with a stacked card of quality racing.

Our full 2022 Pakenham Cup Day Preview can be found below.

Race 1 - 12:35pm AEDT

Benchmark 78 Handicap (2000m)

Brayden Star was a comfortable winner when making his Australian racing debut at Cranbourne a couple of weeks ago over 1500m.

The step up in distance suits where he has won at his only attempt and he should take improvement out of that first up win.

Race 2 - 1:10pm AEDT

Benchmark 78 Handicap (1200m)

This is a big drop in class for Adele Amour who has been tackling black type races for the majority of this prep.

She was beaten under a length at Group 3 level on Melbourne Cup day at Flemington and a repeat of that effort would see her winning this.

Race 3 - 1:45pm AEDT

Benchmark 70 Handicap (1200m)

Invincible Caviar put together back to back wins at Sale to kick start this campaign including a win over 1200m in a benchmark 70.

She was vetted after an ordinary performance at The Valley last start on a rock hard surface when she started favourite so some sting out of the ground would be favourable.

The daughter of Black Caviar has drawn well in barrier three and has 56.5kg.

Race 4 - 2:20pm AEDT

Benchmark 78 Handicap (1000m)

Najem Suhail is only a lightly raced five year old horse with two wins from six career race starts.

He was a dominant winner at Sale two back when scoring by over three lengths in a benchmark 70 before stepping up in class to open company and finishing with a length of Snapper at Flemington.

Should be plenty fit for this contest and looks well placed.

Race 5 - 3:00pm AEDT

Benchmark 70 Handicap (1000m)

Dusse is a talented young filly who has managed to put together back to back wins leading into this assignment.

She put them away at Sale before getting the job done comfortably as favourite at The Valley last time out and with natural progressive she will be tough to beat again in this event.

2 Units Dusse

Race 6 - 3:40pm AEDT

Benchmark 100 Handicap (1200m)

Felicia failed to place in all four runs during her last campaign but she was not disgraced in any of them.

The now six year old mare was beaten less than three lengths behind Aysar in the Listed Chautauqua Stakes at The Valley to close out her last prep and a repeat of that would see her competitive.

Drawn well and well weighted.

1 Unit E/W Felicia

Race 7 - 4:20pm AEDT

Listed Pakenham Cup (2500m)

This is a very open edition of the Pakenham Cup with plenty of different form lines to assess.

I’m happy to be with the progressive Kissinger who is racing particularly well right now and can continue to rise to the occasion.

Fitness should not be an issue for the son of Tavistock and he gets in with just 54kg.

2 Units Kissinger

Race 8 - 5:00pm AEDT

Vobis Gold Bullion (1400m)

Jimmy The Bear has been up for a long time now but he continues to race well.

He won four of five at one stage during this prep and although he was no match for them in the Golden Eagle last time out, he’ll appreciate the drop back in class for this assignment.

Drawn perfectly in barrier four and fitness is not a concern.

2 Units Jimmy The Bear

Race 9 - 5:40pm AEDT

Benchmark 78 Handicap (1600m)

Arran Bay has been competitive in just about all of his 11 career race starts which has included three wins.

The four year old gelding finished within three lengths of the winner as favourite when resuming at Cranbourne but he is a better horse than that effort.

He has one win from two second up starts and is undefeated at this distance.

2 Units E/W

Arran Bay
