Daily Racing Tips – The Championships Day 1 Special

Randwick - Race 6 2:15pm AEDT

No. 1 Cylinder

Golden Slipper runner-up Cylinder has a chance to make amends fourth-up in the Inglis Sires’

The Godolphin colt conceded a late challenge to Shinzo over the final furlong of the Slipper, but he was far from disgraced running out a strong 1200m. Off that, the rise in trip looks ideal, and he’ll appreciate getting back on a softer track.

His win in the Todman Stakes the start prior was full of merit and he maps to get a dream run in transit from barrier 4 under James McDonald.

Randwick - Race 7 2:55pm AEDT

No. 6 I Wish I Win

I Wish I Win looks a serious threat to world-class sprinters Nature Strip and Giga Kick in this year’s T.J. Smith Stakes

The Peter Moody-trained four-year-old capped off a fruitful spring winning the Golden Eagle and has since returned a place in both the Lightning Stakes and the Newmarket Handicap at Flemington.

He clocked some slick times over the final 400m last time round, and a little sting out of the track should be to his liking. The form out of the Lightning looks good with Bella Nipotina running well in the William Reid last week, and with natural improvement to come, he’ll be hard to hold out.

Randwick - Race 8 3:35pm AEDT

No. 16 Zougotcha

Three-year-olds have an outstanding record in the Doncaster Mile and Zougotcha is no stranger to winning over the track and distance.

The Zoustar filly won the Flight Stakes by an impressive margin during the spring, and has looked in great order beaten only narrowly in the Surround Stakes first-up before winning a Group 2 at Rosehill a few weeks ago.

Chris Waller is no stranger to winning the great race, and this girl has plenty of wet-track form to suggest she can cause a minor upset.

Randwick - Race 9 4:15pm AEDT

No. 9 Mark Twain

Mark Twain looks a serious value play in this year’s Australian Derby

The three-year-old by Shocking is making his Australian debut coming off an eye-catching fourth in the New Zealand Derby a month ago. He made up enormous ground from the tail to finish just over two lengths off, and we’ve seen the third place-getter of that race come out and run well in the Tulloch Stakes last week.

The Kiwi’s have been flying all Autumn, and with a run over 2400m to his name, he looks a genuine winning chance.
