Chicago vs Miami Probable Pitchers

Steele has been everything Chicago could ask for and more in 2022, forming a solid partnership with Marcus Stroman at the top of the rotation. The 27-year-old is 4-0 with a 1.19 ERA in 30.1 innings, striking out 29 and issuing just 10 walks. He also owns a 0.89 WHIP.

April 25th was yet another fantastic outing for Steele, tossing 5.1 scoreless against a star-studded Padres lineup, allowing just three hits in the process. Steele has only faced Miami once in his career but he struck out 10 in 4.1 frames and didn’t give up a single run.

Hoeing was called up recently to replace the injured Trevor Rogers in the rotation but struggled in his first start of the campaign, getting torched for four earned in just 3.2 innings of work against the Atlanta Braves. He also had a brief stint in the Majors last year but failed to have much success.

The righty has actually pitched against the Cubs before but it was brief, tossing a mere one inning. With his career ERA in the big leagues sitting at 11.57, it’s difficult to rely on Hoeing to actually keep the Marlins in this game, especially because Chicago swings it well.

Cubs Looking to Salvage Finale

Chicago is just 4-6 in their last 10 games and has lost back-to-back games to the Marlins, but both were close. We’re talking 3-2 and 7-6 scorelines. The Cubbies put themselves in an early hole Saturday as the Fish scored five runs in the first inning off of Caleb Kilian, who was chased after 3.1 innings.

There were some positives offensively as Trey Mancini and Cody Bellinger both had two hits apiece, but the Cubbies stranded nine runners. That came back to hurt them.

Marlins Enjoying Brief Win Streak

Miami is now above .500 with their current three-game winning streak, beating the Braves in the finale before taking a pair of contests from Chicago. Edward Cabrera was fantastic on the mound, giving up just two earned and striking out 12 cubbies. However, he did walk five.

At the plate, the Marlins banged out 12 hits, with Jazz Chisholm and Luis Arraez leading the charge. The two had three-hit days. The offense will need to produce again Sunday because Hoeing is a wild card on the bump.

This game has Cubbies written all over it. Steele is lights out since the season began and I expect a lot of the same.
