The Milwaukee Brewers (28-26, 12-14 away) will conclude an interleague series with the Toronto Blue Jays (29-16, 14-9 home) on Thursday afternoon at the Rogers Centre. The first pitch is scheduled for 1:07 PM ET.

For the rubber match, the Brew Crew plans to start Freddy Peralta. The Jays counter with their ace, Kevin Gausman.

Team Moneyline Runline Total

Milwaukee vs Toronto Probable Starters

Peralta is having a respectable campaign for Milwaukee, compiling a 4.64 ERA and a 5-4 record in 10 starts. He’s struck out 58 in 54.1 innings but has had control issues at times, walking 23. The 26-year-old is also coming off one of his worst outings of the year, allowing 10 runs (four earned) to the Giants in just 2.1 frames of work.

In fact, Peralta’s ERA in May is all the way up to 5.61. Thursday’s start is technically the first day of June, so it’s a chance for him to start the month off with a bang. He’s never faced the Jays, but it’s a tough lineup to contain.

Peralta vs Gausman Stats

Freddy Peralta
VS
Kevin Gausman
5-4 Record 3-3
4.64 ERA 3.03
54.1 Innings Pitched 68.1
58 Strikeouts 89
23 Walks 16

There isn’t a lot of consistency through this Toronto rotation, but Gausman has sure been reliable. The veteran is the clear-cut ace of the staff with Alek Manoah struggling, posting a 3-3 record and 3.03 ERA in 11 starts. He’s racked up 89 strikeouts in 68.1 innings and walked just 16. Gausman does a phenomenal job of attacking hitters and pounding the strike zone.

It’s four outings in a row now where he’s given up two runs or fewer, surrendering just one earned on May 26th against the Twins en route to his third win. He also owns a 2.05 ERA versus Milwaukee.

Brewers on Top of NL Central

Milwaukee is first in the NL Central, which certainly looks good. But, that’s basically because the division is poor. The Brew Crew are just two games above .500 and haven’t really excelled in any particular area. They’re 25th in runs, 28th in hits, and 14th in ERA.

But, Craig Counsell’s squad is doing just enough to sit in top spot ahead of the Pirates and Reds, who aren’t far behind them. This current lineup is hitting just .194 off Gausman with no home runs.

Offense Carrying Toronto

Just like in prior seasons, it’s the offense that is keeping the Jays afloat. They truly have one of the best MLB lineups around, ranking top-five in several categories including average, hits, and OBP.

Bo Bichette is leading the way with a .331 average, while Vlad Guerrero Jr and Whit Merrifield are also slashing over .290. Outside of Gausman and Chris Bassitt though, their arms aren’t the best. Manoah is having a rough campaign, while Yusei Kikuchi is very up and down.

Brewers vs Blue Jays Picks

The Jays never facing Peralta could turn out to be a good or a bad thing. But to me, Gausman is far too solid lately to bet against. Take that Toronto moneyline. The bats will give him run support.

Pick: Blue Jays moneyline (-190)
