Atlanta United vs New England Revolution Picks

Two teams with playoff aspirations meet here when fifth in thr East Atlanta hosts the third seed in the conference New England in Wednesday’s first game to kick-off in Week 16 at 7:00 pm EST.

Atlanta has been hovering in mediocrity since a hot start as they have just a single win in six games. However, after Saturday’s 1-1 draw in Orlando, they’re undefeated in three matches. Tyler Wolff’s 86′ minute equalizer also extended Altanta’s streak of scoring in every game this season. Of those 15 games, they’ve only kept three clean sheets though, making ‘both teams to score’ bets 12-3 for Atlanta this season.

The Revolution are in a similar position having cooled off of late with only one win in their past five games. They’ve given up a three-spot in back-to-back games after a 3-0 loss in Philadelphia and a 3-3 draw at home to Chicago on Saturday.

The Revs’ MLS injury report numbers are filling up with the likes of Dylan Borrero, Gustavo Bou, Carles Gil and Henry Kessler all out or nursing injuries and the results are reflecting that. But with Bobby Wood (4 goals) and Giacomo Vrioni (3), New England is still finding their goals.

Giorgios Giakoumakis was subbed off on Saturday, but it’s believed to only be precautionary as he was coming back from injury.

Last year the teams drew 2-2 in Atlanta and the Revs won 2-1 in New England.

After Seattle (24.8) and Vancouver (22.8), New England and Atlanta (22.5) are both tied in third overall in the league in xG, while being first in the East. Atlanta ranks third in shots on target, while New England is sixth, plus both sides are top-10 in attacking third touches.

The Five Stripes have now scored in 17 straight league games, the longest current active record in MLS, but they’ve also conceded in 12/15 this season.

  • Atlanta United vs New England Revolution Prediction: Both teams to score & over 2.5 (-105), risk 1 unit at Bet365

Toronto FC vs Chicago Fire Picks

Amidst all the chaos, infighting and poor results to start to the season, TFC pulled themselves up on the weekend and put in a performance against Wayne Rooney’s DC United, a 2-1 home win. They did it without Federico Bernardeschi (benched), but with Lorenzo Insigne and with goals from two youngsters, Deandre Kerr and Kosi Thompson, with the Italian DP assisting on both goals. That stops the bleeding and the calls for Bob Bradley’s job at least for a few days. The three points pulls Toronto out of the East’s basement making them level on 16 points the Red Bulls, NYCFC and their Wednesday opponents the Chicago Fire.

Obviously with only 16 points and three wins themselves, same as Toronto, plus already going through a coach firing, Chicago isn’t in a much better position. They’re winless in three and have just one win in their past eight.

Frank Klopas’ team have kept things interesting though with back-to-back 3-3 draws with Atlanta and then New England on the weekend. That makes them 9-5 to Over 2.5 totals, with a goals-per-match average of 3.2, which is the fourth-highest in the league. From a defensive standpoint, the Fire’s xGA of 21.4 is only better than Montreal, Charlotte and Colorado.

Both Chicago and Toronto give their opponents plenty of shots with Chicago ranking 23rd and Toronto 19th in shots on target allowed. TFC also gives up the fourth-most attacking third and second-most penalty area touches to their opponents.

The win over DC was TFC’s first in four games and their first goals after being shut out in each of those four games as well.

Games between these two last season saw the homes teams winning 2-0 (CHI) and 3-2 (TOR).

It’s hard to get excited about either team right now. The Fire should hold a midfield advantage with TFC still missing a boatload of players due to injury, thus allowing them to build up play and create chances. But a potentially uplifted Toronto side at home (where they’re 3-4-1) should also get their chances against this Fire defense.

Mix that all up and I see goals. Both teams to score (-150) or go for the added value of adding the Over 2.5 (+105) as well.

  • Toronto FC vs Chicago Fire Prediction: Both teams to score (-150), risk 1 unit at Bet365

Sporting Kansas City vs FC Dallas Picks

Sporting may still be the league’s 26th-ranked team in scoring (13 goals), but they’re coming off their best offensive output of the season. On Sunday, they put four past Portland in a 4-1 win, now making them 3-1-1 in their past five as Peter Vermes’ team are slowly beginning to turn a historically terrible start to the season around.

I can basically use much of what I said about Dallas in Week 15, again here in Week 16. After Nkosi Tafari scored a 95′ minute equalizer Saturday night to salvage a 1-1 draw in San Jose, FCD are now undefeated in five. They only have one loss in their past nine games and have still scored a goal against every team this season not named Minnesota. But, wins on the road continue to be hard to come by as they have none in their past 15 and only one in their past 25.

One of those teams they’ve scored on this season is this SKC team. These teams played back in March in Dallas, a 2-1 win for FCD.

Last year’s scores also saw Dallas win 2-1 at home, plus a 2-2 draw in Kansas City. They played a third time in the US Open Cup in KC, a 4-2 exta-time win for Sporting.

I can’t bet a Dallas road win. Sporting look to be on the upswing, but will be playing on shorter rest having played Sunday and have allowed a goal in 8/9. I have to bet on goals here for my Sporting KC vs FC Dallas picks.

  • SKC vs Dallas Prediction: Both teams to score (-125), risk 1 unit at Caesars Sportsbook
