  • The first matchup features Luis Severino on the hill, while the Cards counter with Jack Flaherty
  • Check out the latest Yankees vs Cardinals odds below, as well as our best bet and prediction

Let’s play two. In the heart of America, a couple of baseball’s most storied franchises get set for a doubleheader on Saturday, July 1st with the Yankees (45-36, 20-17 away) paying a visit to the Midwest to take on the Cardinals (33-47, 15-24 home) at Busch Stadium.

Rain postponed Friday’s meeting between the two sides as the Yankees continue to wait for a chance to defeat the Cardinals for the first time in six years. First pitch for Game 1 is scheduled for 2:15 pm ET and can be seen on Fox Sports 1, YES Network, and Bally Sports Midwest.

Ranked first and second in World Series titles amongst MLB franchises, the Yanks are once again in the mix this year, but after a disastrous first half, the Cardinals are nowhere to be seen in the World Series odds. For the full Yankees vs Cardinals odds for Game 1, check out the table and preview below.

Yankees vs Cardinals Odds

Team Moneyline Runline Total
New York Yankees -110 -1.5 (+145) O 8.5 (-120)
St. Louis Cardinals -110 +1.5 (-170) U 8.5 (+100)

Oddsmakers have decided there’s no clear favorite in this one, rendering this contest a pick’em on the MLB betting lines. The over/under total for this matchup sits at a rather low 8.5 runs considering both squads are sending out starters who have been inconsistent this season.

It’ll be a steamy affair with the afternoon temperatures approaching 100 degrees. More rain has not been completely ruled out of the forecasts, as there is a 39% chance of some wet weather during the first ball game.

New York (AL) vs St. Louis Probable Pitchers

Once looked upon as the next homegrown ace in pinstripes, injuries have derailed Luis Severino’s career for the last four seasons. Even this campaign, he’s made only seven starts after beginning the year on the injured list with a lat strain.

The numbers don’t paint a pretty picture so far, although he is coming off a very impressive performance against one of the scariest MLB lineups, completely shutting out the Texas Rangers through six innings in his last appearance.

For the 29-year-old to have continued success, he needs to avoid giving up the long ball. Severino allowed seven homers in his first three starts in June but hasn’t allowed a single dinger in his last two outings.

Severino vs Flaherty Stats

Luis Severino
VS
Jack Flaherty
1-2 Record 4-5
5.25 ERA 4.95
1.50 WHIP 1.60
.271 OBA .280
2.1 SO/W Ratio 1.8

Similar to his counterpart on the hill, Jack Flaherty has also had issues staying healthy the last few years after a terrific start to his career. This season though, the righty has been fully fit, making 15 starts.

Over his last two appearances, Flaherty has been rocked. In each of those outings, he gave up 10 hits and six earned runs. While his team has been the biggest bust on the moneyline in the MLB odds this season, the Cards actually sport a 9-6 straight up mark when Flaherty pitches.

Yankees Betting Trends

Don’t fear, Harrison Bader is here. With Aaron Judge, the second betting favorite in the MVP odds, out with a toe injury, a lot of talk has been centered on the Yankees’ record without him. It’s an unavoidable conversation, but in one of the more interesting stats you’ll hear, the Bronx Bombers are 24-9 when Bader plays this season.

Also picking up the slack for the Yanks lately is shortstop Anthony Volpe. He’s slashing .421/.500.526 over the past seven days, helping New York win four of their last five.

One other note, the Yankees have a 22-7 record during day games this season for a .759 winning percentage. If they had it their way, they’d play every contest when the sun is out as no other squad has a better winning percentage during day games this season.

Yankees vs Cardinals Picks

Preseason favorites in the division odds, the Cards are now +700 to perform a miracle and claim top spot in the National League Central. Always a challenge to visitors because of their fervent and dedicated fan base, only three teams have fewer home wins than the Cardinals this season.

Flaherty has been rocked in his last two outings, while Severino is coming off a huge confidence-boosting win over the Rangers. When you consider all the dynamics at play here, the Yankees are too good an option to pass up, so our prediction is that they open up this series with a win Saturday afternoon.

Pick: New York Yankees Moneyline (-110)
