Sports Wagering Advisory Council Approves Kentucky Sports Betting Catalogue

  • The Kentucky sports betting catalogue received initial approved from the Kentucky Sports Wagering Advisory Council
  • It was the council’s inaugural meeting
  • The Kentucky Horse Racing Commission must now approve the catalogue before it is released to operators and the public

The Kentucky sports betting landscape is becoming more clear, as a special sports wagering advisory council gave its approval to the commonwealth’s sports betting catalogue.

The Kentucky Sports Wagering Advisory Council unanimously approved the state’s sports betting catalogue this morning, sending the catalogue to the Kentucky Horse Racing Commission for final approval before its sent to sports betting operators and the public.

It was the advisory council’s inaugural meeting.

What Will Sports Betting Catalogue Contain?

The full Kentucky sports betting catalogue will not be fully released to the public until its approved by the Kentucky Horse Racing Commission.

KHRC Sports Betting Director Hans Stokke walked the advisory council through the sports betting catalogue.

“Today I represent the KHRC in recommending the Kentucky Sports Wagering Advisory Council’s endorsement of the sports wagering catalogue. If the wagering catalogue is subsequently approved by the KHRC, it will be made available to all licensed entities, as well as the public, through KHRC’s website. The wagering catalogue will then be used to craft a unique market for patrons wishing to place a legal wager in the commonwealth of Kentucky,” Stokke said.

The sports betting catalogue will not include horse racing, dog racing, or any events that are not considered sporting events, such as the Academy or Emmy Awards.

There were several questions about potential events not being included in the initial sports betting catalogue. Council member Jonathan Blue asked about the potential for pickleball to be included in the catalogue at a later date.

“I think it’s the fastest growing sport in the world,”  Blue noted.

Service providers can submit potential new markets and events to the KHRC to be added to the sports betting catalogue, Stokke said. He also noted that the catalogue may even be expanded before the state’s online sports betting launch on Thursday, Sept. 28.

Kentucky Sports Betting Launch One Week Away

Kentucky will officially launch retail sports betting on Thursday, Sept. 7, at 10 a.m. when Gov. Andy Beshear (D) places the state’s first sports bet at Churchill Downs Racetrack. Online sports betting will follow three weeks later on Thursday, Sept. 28.

The Kentucky Horse Racing Commission recently approved the first eight initial online sports betting operators for Kentucky sports betting. The following operators received approval of their temporary sports betting service provider licenses. If the operators meet certain conditions, the temporary licenses will be eligible to become permanent licenses.

The Kentucky Horse Racing Commission also unveiled a complete list of partnerships between the online sports betting operators and licensed tracks. They are as follows:

  • DraftKings (Cumberland Run and its satellite location)
  • FanDuel (Turfway Park and its satellite location, Newport Racing and Gaming)
  • BetMGM (Sandy’s Gaming and Racing)
  • Caesars Sportsbook (The Red Mile)
  • Bet365 (Sandy’s Gaming and Racing)
  • Circa Sports (Cumberland Run and its satellite location)
  • PENN Sports Interactive (Ellis Park Henderson and Owensboro)
  • Fanatics Sportsbook (Oak Grove)
