New York, which took both Games 1 and 2 at home, heads into Game 5 as a sizable 4.5-point home favorite in the 76ers vs Knicks odds.

Brunson’s Heroics Lead Knicks to Game 4 Upset

Home teams had held serve in the series up until Game 4, when the Knicks emerged with a 97-92 road win at Wells Fargo Arena, a game they trailed 61-51 early in the third quarter. Jalen Brunson scored 49% of New York’s points (47) while also dishing out 10 assists. The Knicks crushed the Sixers on the glass (52-42) thanks to  a 17-rebound game from Josh Hart and 14 from OG Anunoby.

While the Knicks shot just 43% from the floor, their defense held the 76ers to 35.4%. Philly scored 25 of its 92 points from the free-throw line. Joel Embiid had a team-high 27 points and 10 rebounds but was only 7-of-19 from the floor.

New York is now second in the postseason in rebound percentage at 53.3%, trailing only the T-Wolves who grabbed a ludicrous 58.2% of all rebound chances while sweeping the Suns.  Embiid (35 PPG) and Brunson (33 PPG) are currently first and second in playoff scoring.

Sixers vs Knicks Game 5 Injury Reports

Neither team comes into Game 5 fully healthy. For Philly, Embiid is listed as a day-to-day after missing shootaround on Tuesday morning, but that was due to a migraine, not the knee injury that kept him out half the regular season. Kelly Oubre (15.4 PPG, 5.0 RPG) is listed as probable for Game 5 due to an undisclosed illness.

The Knicks injury situation appears to be worse. Bojan Bogdanovic (15.2 PPG, 2.7 RPG) has been ruled out with a foot injury, while Mitchell Robinson (5.6 PPG, 8.5 RPG) is questionable with the same ankle injury that held him out of Game 4.

Brunson (28.7 PPG, 6.7 APG, 3.6 RPG) has also landed on the Knicks’ injury report ahead of Game 5 with a right knee contusion.

For the first time this series, Jalen Brunson (34.5) has a higher point total than Joel Embiid (32.5). Coming off a monstrous 17-rebound performance in Game 4, Hart continues to lead the rebounding totals for Game 5 at 11.5. The 6’4 “guard” is averaging 12.8 RPG in the postseason.

Philadelphia 76ers vs New York Knicks Game 5 Predictions

The Knicks are winning this series for two main reasons: Philly’s inability to (a) keep Brunson out of the lane or (b) keep the Knicks off the glass. The bottom line is that the 76ers are getting out-hustled. The good news for Philadelphia is that that’s a correctable issue.

With the Knicks shorthanded and Philly in desperation mode, I expect a close, low-scoring game with the Sixers ultimately forcing a Game 6.
