Auburn Routs MSU to Advance

Auburn used a 17-0 run midway through the first half to turn an early 8-6 deficit into a 23-8 lead. They would never trail thereafter. SEC Player of the Year Johni Broome (18.5 PG, 10.8 RPG, 2.9 APG) had a monster night with 22 points and 12 rebounds with 3.5 minutes still on the clock. He exited the game late with an apparent elbow/arm injury but after several minutes in the locker room triumphantly returned to the court with 5:29 to play.

In the first three rounds of the tournament, Auburn dusted #16 Alabama State (83-63), #9 Creighton (82-70), and #5 Michigan (78-65). The Tigers did trail the Wolverines by as many as eight in the second half before turning up the dial in the final 15 minutes to easily cover as 9.5-point favorites.

Auburn and Florida met once in SEC play this year, with the Gators taking a 90-81 true-road win on Feb. 8. Florida wound up shooting 48.5% from the field compared to 42.9% for the Tigers, who were just 7-for-22 from three (31.8%) compared to 13-of-33 for the Gators (39.4%).

Clayton had a team-high 19 points for UF in the win, while Miles Kelly (11.5 PPG, 3.6 RPG, 1.1 APG) had 22 for Auburn while Broome finished with 18 points, 11 rebounds, and six assists in a losing effort.
