After Scottie Scheffler won the Memorial Tournament for his third victory in four starts, the PGA Tour heads to the RBC Canadian Open. This tournament is being contested at a new course, at TPC Toronto at Osprey Valley, just outside of Toronto. Rory McIlroy, who won this event in 2019 and 2022, is the heavy favorite to make it a hat-trick of titles.

Notably absent is Scheffler, who has opted not to tee it up, as he prepares for the season’s third major, the US Open next week at Oakmont. There a total of 21 Canadians competing to win their national title, something that Nick Taylor did in wildly dramatic fashion to claim the 2023 iteration of this championship.

RBC Canadian Open Odds 2025

Golfer Odds
Rory McIlroy +450
Ludvig Aberg +1400
Corey Conners +1900
Shane Lowry +2000
Sam Burns +3000
Taylor Pendrith +3000
Robert MacIntyre +3000
Sungjae Im +3500
Luke Clanton +3500
Harry Hall +3500
Mackenzie Hughes +4000
Keith Mitchell +4000
Thorbjorn Olesen +4000
Wyndham Clark +4500
Nick Taylor +5000
Alex Noren +5000
Kurt Kitayama +5000
Max Homa +5500
Chris Gotterup +5500
Jake Knapp +6000

Rory McIlroy is the clear favorite over Ludvig Aberg, who claimed the Genesis Invitational in 2025. Canada’s best hopes in the eyes of oddsmakers lay at Corey Conners, who sports the third shortest odds.

McIlroy has been fantastic in 2025, with eight top-20’s in nine PGA Tour starts, including victories at the Masters, Players Championship and AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am. He’s also something of an adopted son in Canada, having thrilled the galleries in his 2019 and 2022 wins and T-4th last year and T-9th in 2023.

Past Five RBC Canadian Open Winners

Year Winner
2024 Robert MacIntyre
2023 Nick Taylor
2022 Rory McIlroy
2019 Rory McIlroy
2018 Dustin Johnson

There was no 2020 or 2021 RBC Canadian Open due to COVID-19 restrictions.

Normally I absolutely loathe wagering on a golfer with such low +450 odds, but in this case, I see the value in doing that on McIlroy. He’s first in total strokes gained and tee-to-green and second in ball striking the last 24 rounds. Not only has he been red-hot this year, but the Ulsterman owns this tournament and isn’t up against a stacked field.

For example, Ludvig Aberg, the second choice, has one top-10 since his win at the Genesis Invitational in February. The third choice is Canuck Corey Conners, but he rarely wins, taking just two trophies home in his career, and the fourth selection Shane Lowry has difficulty closing out events too, with just two individual tourney wins on the PGA Tour since 2015. The quality of talent is lacking for the RBC Canadian Open, so I’m happy to go off script and fire a hefty wager on McIlroy to make it a hat-trick of RBC W’s.

RBC Canadian Open 2025 Picks & Value Bets

  1. Sam Burns +3000: Sam Burns has five PGA Tour titles to his credit, and he’s been knocking on the door to add to that total. His last five events have seen nothing worse than a tie for 30th, with three top-15s. In the last twelve rounds, Burns is third in total strokes gained, and he has a T-4th in 2022 and T-10th in 2024 at this National Open.
  2. Nick Taylor +5000: Canadian Nick Taylor isn’t the most consistent golfer, but he has a chance to win, he often doesn’t back down. He won this tournament in 2023 in dramatic fashion with a lengthy eagle putt in a playoff, breaking a 69-year drought for Canadians at this championship. He’s coming in with solid form, with a three top-20s in his last four times teeing it up, including a fourth place showing Sunday at the Memorial, his best finish since winning the 2025 Sony Open.
  3. Matti Schmid +7500: Before missing the cut by one stroke at the Memorial, Matti Schmid was solid, posting three top-10s in four starts, including a runner-up two weeks ago at the Charles Schwab Challenge. The other two results were T-7th and T-9th, so at this price, the German is definitely intriguing.
  4. Tom Kim +9000: Based on talent alone, Tom Kim would usually be the third choice to win this event had he been playing stellar coming in. The 22-year old already has three PGA Tour titles to his credit, and was T-4th at this tourney last year. There’s no way to sugarcoat it – since February he’s been lost, but at his talent level, the juice is worth the squeeze at +9000.
