Wimbledon Predictions, Picks & Best Bets for Day 2 (Tuesday, July 1)

  • Day 2 of action at Wimbledon 2025 is highlighted by #1 Jannik Sinner facing countryman Luca Nardi
  • Gael Monfils meets #18 Ugo Humbert in an all-French battle
  • See my favorite Wimbledon predictions and picks for the second day of action at the AELTC

A thrilling first day at Wimbledon 2025 had to be suspended due to the 11pm curfew. Action will resume at 10 a.m. GMT (6:00 am ET) on Tuesday, July 1st, and the schedule is stacked with intrigue. On the men’s side, two civil wars of sorts highlight the docket with world #1 Jannik Sinner facing fellow Italian Luca Nardi (#95), while frenchmen Gael Monfils and #18 Ugo Humbert square off a little later in the day.

The table below includes my three favorite Wimbledon picks and predictions for day two action at the All England Lawn Tennis Club.

Wimbledon Picks & Predictions for Day 2 (July 1st)

Match Pick/Odds Sportsbook
Sinner vs Nardi Nardi +9.5 games (-115) DraftKings
Humbert vs Monfils Humbert 3-0 (+205) Caesars
Paul vs Monday Monday to win 1st set (+375) BetMGM

Sinner vs Nardi Prediction

This will be the first match between the 23-year-old Sinner and 21-year-old Nardi, despite both hailing from Italy. Nardi is just 5-9 on the ATP Tour this season and has last his last two matches, including his only match on grass this season (6-3, 6-4 to Billy Harris in the Eastbourne qualifiers). Lifetime, he’s an ugly 2-6 on grass, with all the matches coming in the last two-plus seasons.

Sinner stumbled in Halle during his only grass-court tune-up, losing to Alexander Bublik 3-6, 6-3, 6-4. Grass has never been his preferred surface, but he did go 9-1 on the carpet last year with a title in Halle before bowing out in the Wimbledon semis to Daniil Medvedev in a classic five-setter.

Sinner is an unbettable -5000 to win the match, but I have no interest in betting Nardi as a +1600 underdog. Instead I’m targeting Nardi +9.5 games at -115. Nardi can lose in straight sets and still cover as long as he averages three games per set. If he gets four games in any set, Sinner would need a bagel or 6-1 set to get back on track to cover. He hasn’t won a set by more than three games on grass this year, and only did it six times in ten grass-court matches last year.

Pick: Nardi +9.5 games (-115)

Humbert vs Monfils Prediction

The 38-year-old Gale Monfils enter Wimbledon on a three-match losing streak. He’s only won two of his last seven, overall, and both of those went the distance against opponents outside the top 70. His grass-court campaign has, so far, included a straight-sets loss to Mackenzie McDonald (6-4, 6-4) and a three-set loss to Alex Michelsen (6-4, 4-6, 6-3).

Ugo Humbert, meanwhile, is 4-3 on grass this year and 31-24 career. Each of his five wins has been in straight sets, and I fully expect the 27-year-old, who ended last year #14 in the world and is still inside the top 20 (#18), to make short work of his aging compatriot, who is only 7-10 on grass since 2019.

Pick: Humbert 3-0 (+205)

Paul vs Monday Prediction

My last pick for day two is Briton Johannus Monday to take the first set against world #13 Tommy Paul. The 23-year-old Monday is ranked just 224th in the world, which is a career-best for him. He’s 6’5 with a big serve and he picked up a career-best win over Chris O’Connell in Eastbourne qualification (6-3, 2-6, 6-4). He also forced Arthur Rinderknech to two tiebreaks in London (7-62, 7-62).

Tommy Paul could be ripe for the picking, at least in the first set. He just dropped his first (and so far only) grass-court match of the season to another Briton, Dan Evans, in Eastbourne (6-4, 3-6, 6-3), serving an ugly 55% in the process. He lost despite saving 71% of break points against, and taking advantage of 60% in his favor.

I’m not prepared to bet Monday to win a five-setter against a top-25 player. But coming out hot in front of a partisan crowd is very possible.

Pick: Monday to win 1st set (+375)
