Mercury vs Fever Picks, Player Props, Odds & Injury Reports (July 30)

  • Caitlin Clark remains out on Wednesday when her Indiana Fever host the Phoenix Mercury
  • Phoenix is just a game back of second in the league, while Indiana only has a 1.5-game cushion on ninth

Winners of two straight, the Indiana Fever (14-12, 8-6 home, 13-13 ATS) will look to make it three in a row when they host the Phoenix Mercury (18-9, 7-5 away, 12-12-1 ATS) at Gainbridge Fieldhouse at 7:00 pm ET on Wednesday, July 30th. The Fever will be without reigning WNBA Rookie of the Year Caitlin Clark for the fifth straight game, and oddsmakers give Phoenix a modest edge against shorthanded Indiana.

Below, find my favorite Mercury vs Fever picks, followed by the full list of player props and the best available PHX/IND odds (spread, moneyline, and total). At the tail end, find the full injury reports for both teams.

The Fever have been undervalued without Clark all season. They did, indeed, start the Clark-less era poorly, but recent returns have been anything but. Indiana has won two straight without Clark and five of seven overall, with the only losses coming on the road against reigning-champion New York. This will be the first meeting of any sort between the Fever and Mercury this season.

Phoenix is drastically improved compared to last season, when they finished two games under .500 with a -3.4 point differential. But the Fever actually have a better point differential than the Mercury this year (+4.0 vs +3.3), despite Phoenix sitting 2.5 games up on Indiana in the standings.

Phoenix’s 7-5 road record hides a wolf in sheep’s clothing to some extent. The Mercury are 5-1 on the road against sub-.500 teams, and 2-4 on the road against teams that currently have a winning record. Their last road victory against an over-.500 team was all the way back in mid-June, when they handed the Liberty a 89-81 loss in New York. Jonquel Jones, New York’s leading rebounder, was limited to just nine minutes in that contest due to injury, and Phoenix wound up with a massive +10 advantage on the glass.

Along with the Indiana moneyline, I’m also betting forward Aliyah Boston (15.4 PPG, 8.0 RPG, 3.9 APG) to go over 14.5 points and 8.5 rebounds. (See full player-props table, below.) Boston has been flourishing without Clark, especially on the glass. She has hit double-digit rebounds in each of the last three games. She’s only averaging 14.0 PPG in that span, but her usage is up. She’s attempted an average of 13.3 FGA per game in Indiana’s three games since the All-Star break, well above her season average of 11.3.

As long as she keeps shooting, she’s more likely than not to hit 15 tonight.

With Clark still out, Kelsey Mitchell (20.2 PPG, 1.8 RPG, 2.8 APG) has a point total of 19.5 O/U, which leads all player by four whole points. Mitchell has led Indiana in scoring in eight straight games, averaging 22.25 PPG in that span and hitting the 20-point plateau six times. Last time out, she had a season-high 35 in a 93-78 rout of the Sky in Chicago.

Satou Sabally (18.0 PPG, 7.0 RPG, 2.6 APG) has the highest total on the Phoenix side at just 15.5 O/U. The Mercury’s leading scorer hasn’t had more than 15 points since returning from a three-week injury absence last Wednesday, averaging just 11.3 PPG in a meager 23.7 minutes per night. But her last game was a step in the right direction, scoring 15 points in 28 minutes during an 88-72 win at. Washington.

Phoenix point forward Alyssa Thomas (15.7 PPG, 8.0 RPG, 9.4 APG) has the highest assist total at 8.5 O/U. No other player is over 4.5.

Every sportsbook has the total at 166.5, but under bettors can get slightly better -105 price at FanDuel. Over bettors won’t get better than -110, which is available at bet365 and BetMGM.

Both teams are among the top-four favorite in the WNBA title odds. Phoenix is currently the third-favorite at +625, while Indiana is fourth at +1050. Both sit well behind last year’s finalists New York (+164) and Minnesota (+170).
