There are some great opportunities to find value in college football Week 2 if you know what to watch for.
The highlight of the week is Michigan heading to Norman to play Oklahoma. The Sooners opened at -4.5 and shot up to -5.5 before Michigan backers pushed it down. I’m taking Oklahoma at -4.5 while I can still get it under five.
I’m also picking Pittsburgh to cover against Central Michigan and taking Iowa with the points in Ames. I’ll break down the reasons for each pick below.
Here’s why I think these are the best college football teams to back against the spread in Week 2.

CFB ATS Picks #1: Oklahoma -4.5 vs Michigan
I’m starting my Week 2 college football against the spread picks with Oklahoma laying less than fie points at home. After setting a school record for passing yards in his debut, John Mateer vaulted into the top five of the Heisman odds. Meanwhile, Michigan only managed to separate last week because New Mexico turned the ball over three times.
The Wolverines lost time of possession and first-down battles against New Mexico. Their defense allowed over 260 yards to an inferior opponent. Now they face a massive jump in competition on the road.
Oklahoma’s defense is the real difference-maker here. Freshman quarterback Bryce Underwood makes his first road start in a hostile SEC environment. That’s a tough ask for any freshman, especially when facing Brent Venables’ defense.
The Sooners put up nearly 500 total yards in Week 1. While Michigan might show improvement during the game, I expect Oklahoma to build an early lead and hold it. With a loud crowd ready to rattle Michigan’s freshman quarterback, the environment will be intimidating.
Venables is in year four and has more to prove on his home field. Michigan is still adjusting post-Jim Harbaugh. I’m predicting a statement win for the Sooners in Norman on Saturday night.
- Pick: Oklahoma -4.5 (-115)

CFB ATS Picks #2: Pittsburgh -22.5 vs Central Michigan
Central Michigan managed a 16-14 win at San Jose State, but the Spartans appeared completely disinterested. Now, the Chippewas face a potential CFP playoff contender that returns 16 starters.
Pitt destroyed Duquesne 61-9 in their opener. Eli Holstein threw four touchdown passes, including two to Cataurus “Blue” Hicks. Holstein completed 15-of-23 passes for 215 yards and ran for another 41.
The Chippewas ran 51 times for 236 yards against San Jose State with Nahree Biggins and Trey Cornist combining for 202 yards on 31 carries. That ground-heavy approach won’t work against Pittsburgh’s linebacker corps, which entered the season with whispers of being the nation’s best.
Central Michigan is getting 63% of spread tickets but only 38% of the money. Pitt has just 37% of bets but 62% of the handle. That 25-percent gap shows where the respected money landed.
Last week, the Chips managed only 351 total yards and used a three-quarterback system that favored running over passing. Quarterback Joe Lavis struggled with efficiency, completing just five of 10 passes for 56 yards. Considering Pitt’s defense allowed just 3.2 yards per carry last season, it should feast on this limited CMU offense.
- Pick: Pittsburgh -22.5 (-108)
CFB Spread Picks #3: Iowa +3 vs Iowa State
To wrap up my Week 2 college football spread picks, I’m taking the Hawkeyes as underdogs in the CyHawk rivalry. Iowa has won six straight in Ames and seven of the last nine overall, while the Cyclones have not beaten Iowa at home since 2011.
Mark Gronowski completed just eight passes for 44 yards last week, but Iowa kept their play-calling conservative on purpose. Gronowski went 49-6 as a starter at South Dakota State with 10,352 passing yards and 94 touchdowns. He left in the third quarter against Albany but is expected to be fine for this matchup.
Xavier Williams exploded for 122 rushing yards on only 11 carries, becoming the third Hawkeye to reach 100 yards in a collegiate debut under Kirk Ferentz. Last season, Iowa’s offense under Tim Lester improved by 13 points and 108 yards per game.
Here’s a trend that jumps off the page: road teams getting 1.5 to 6 points in non-conference revenge games are 27-5 ATS since 1982. That’s an 84% cover rate with 22 outright wins in 32 games. Iowa checks every box – they’re on the road, getting 3 points, and seeking revenge after last year’s loss.
Hawkeyes QB Rocco Becht completed 19-of-20 passes for a school-record 95% completion rate against South Dakota, throwing for 278 yards and three touchdowns. But he’s also thrown seven career pick-sixes, the most among active FBS players. Iowa’s elite defense has recorded at least one interception return touchdown in 17 straight seasons.
- Pick: Iowa +3 (-102)
Brady’s 2025 CFB ATS Picks Record: 2-1
