The puck drops Monday evening in a battle between two Western Conference rivals going in opposite directions. Since November, the Jets are the worst team in hockey, and in the last month, the Oilers have tied for the fourth most wins in the NHL.

Edmonton (19-14-6, 16-23 ATS, 44 pts) squares off against Winnipeg (15-17-4, 19-17 ATS. 34 pts), with the Oilers third in the Pacific, and the Jets second last in the Central.

Action is set to get underway at 6:30 pm CT / 7:30 pm ET from Canada Life Centre in Winnipeg, Manitoba with ESPN+ and Prime Video providing the coverage in the United States and Canada.

• Over 6 Total Goals (-115 at Bet365)

My Oilers vs Jets prediction is that over six total goals will be scored. In an Edmonton duel, at least six times there’s been goals in a whopping 17 of their last 25 skirmishes. It’s also happened in four of the last five meetings between these two rivals. Additionally, despite having Vezina-winning goalie Connor Hellebuyck between the pipes (as he’s confirmed to be for this matchup), seven total goals have occurred in the last two Jets contests.

Per the NHL odds, our SBD formula has the Oilers holding serve 3.64-3.53, which translates to over six goals being scored between the Oilers vs Jets.

The Oilers will counter with backup goaltender Calvin Pickard, and his numbers have been ghastly (3-5-2 record, 3.93 GAA, .861 save %). He’s surrendered at least four goals in six of nine times suiting up on the campaign. Not only should Edmonton get their goals in, as they’re third best in the NHL (3.38 GPG), but Winnipeg should get their fair share also against the porous Pickard, driving the total over six goals.

Lighting the lamp is rarely a problem for the Oilers, as they’re near the top in goal scoring and power play, but it’s preventing snipes that’s long been an issue, as they rank in the bottom half of the NHL. The Jets are middling in both categories, and took a serious hit when two-time defending Vezina Trophy-winning goaltender Connor Hellebuyck was injured for 13 games, with WPG going 3-9-1.

Given the fact they’ve been to back-to-back Cup Finals, Edmonton is sixth (+1200) in the Stanley Cup Odds, with Winnipeg a +6000 longshot despite high pre-season hopes as reigning Presidents’ Trophy winners.

For a prop bet, I’m going with Oilers forward Zach Hyman to score a goal. Hyman has ripped goals in two of his last three affairs and eight total in his last nine tilts after two markers in his first eleven outings. He sports odds longer than the top-four on the betting board, so there’s some decent value on him.

If you want to get spicy and parlay over six total goals, plus Hyman to snipe, that total pays out a cool +300.
