Let’s get the safest play out of the way.
Hernandez is a heavy favorite for good reason. “Fluffy” has won eight straight bouts, with six finishes, including a spectacular submission of Roman Dolidze back in August. Hernandez hasn’t lost since 2020, and his patience and striking skills have grown with experience. In fact, his skillset is almost tailor made for defeating Strickland.
The California native boasts the most takedowns per minute in middleweight history at 3.5 takedown attempts. His grappling edge also matches up perfectly against Sean Strickland’s vulnerability. Strickland was taken down seven times by Driccus Du Plessis over two fights against him, and had few answers once on the ground.
I like Hernandez’ volume striking to lead the way in this one, as long as he stays active, he’ll win this bout. Strickland struggles against pressure wrestlers, and Hernandez’ cardio makes him a solid favorite.
Meanwhile Geoff Neal’s striking precision makes him a heavy favorite in the co-main event of the evening. With 10 career knockout victories, Uros Medic’s night could be over quickly. Neil land nearly five significant strikes per minute, and with Medic’s poor defense – he absorbs 5.2 strikes per minute, this bout looks like a total mismatch. Expect this to be an explosive contest, as none of Medic’s 15 career bouts have gone to decision.

Let’s look a little further down the UFC Houston card for some upsets. The dogs are barking tonight
UFC veteran Dan Ige’s experience will serve him well in the Octagon. Tonight will mark Ige’s 19th UFC fight, and I like the idea of backing his striking (5.1 significant strikes landed per minute) and power (nine UFC knockouts) to catch Melquizael Costa and upset him late in their bout. Ige has fought a who’s who of the featherweight division of late including Patricio Pitbull and Lerone Murphy, so Costa will face a stiff step up in competition. Bet on the vet to pull out the victory.
Finally, Serghei Spivac is the perfect UFC Houston underdog to bet on. The Moldovans’ elite wrestling skills will serve him well against Ante Delija, who is far more capable on his feet. Spivac averages about four takedown attempts per fight, and is tough to stop when he can use his wrestling to maintain control. He’ll aim to pin Delija on the fence, and get force him into mistakes, and get the Croatian on the ground.
Waldo Cortes exploited Delija in his last bout, coming out on top in transitions, and using those to finish Delija with ground punches. That strategy will serve Spivac well, who’s eight career submission victories and youthful athleticism give him the upside as a short dog here.
