Two of the West’s top teams face-off tonight as the Edmonton Oilers (30-25-8, 14-14-4 away) visit the Vegas Golden Knights (29-20-14, 14-9-7 home). This is the second of four meetings between these two clubs this season, with Edmonton posting a 4-3 victory back in December. Online sportsbooks expect another high-scoring affair per the NHL odds, but I don’t think you can make the over/under high enough based on both Edmonton and Vegas’ recent form.
Puck drop for this pivotal clash is set for 6:30 pm PT, 9:30 pm ET, inside T-Mobile Arena, in Las Vegas, NV, with ESPN providing the broadcast coverage.
Here is my Oilers vs Golden Knights prediction, plus prop bets and odds, along with the projected lineups for Sunday Night Hockey.
Oilers vs Golden Knights Prediction
- Over 6.5 Goals (-144 at FanDuel)
Everyone knows the Oilers offense is what makes them a legit Stanley Cup odds contender. After all, this is a team that’s made back-to-back trips to the Cup Final, and boasts Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl, the most dangerous 1-2 punch in hockey.
McDavid hasn’t missed a beat since returning from the All-Star break, racking up 10 points in five games. Not to be outdone, Draisaitl has 11 points in his last four contests, including 4 goals. Edmonton has lit the lamp 25 times since the break, and rank behind only Colorado this season in goals for.
The problem is, the Oilers can’t keep the puck out of their own net. Tristan Jarry has been a colossal disappointment since being acquired from Pittsburgh, forcing Edmonton to rely more on Connor Ingram than they’d like – more on him later. The Oilers enter play having allowed more scoring chances than all but four teams, and their netminders have one of the worst high dangers save percentages in the NHL.
EDM vs LVK: Advanced Stats
That’s a problem against the Golden Knights, who are as talented as any team, even without an injured Mark Stone. Vegas enters play ranked top-11 in goals for, and have created the third most high-danger scoring chances. Both Jack Eichel and Mitch Marner have cleared 60 points, while Pavel Dorofeyev is a 30-goal scorer for the second straight campaign.
Much like the Oilers however, defense has been a major concern for Vegas, especially since returning from the break. They’ve fallen behind 3-0 in four of their past five games, and have surrendered 22 goals in six contests since the Olympics. The Golden Knights netminders boast the league’s worst high danger save percentage, while their team GAA is a bottom-14 mark.
This game profiles for plenty of offense, but you can say that about almost any Oilers contest. Edmonton has seen each of its last 12 contests produce at least seven goals, and this one will as well.
Oilers vs Golden Knights Prop Bets
- Leon Draisaitl Anytime Goal (+140 at DraftKings)
When it comes to the NHL props market, run don’t walk to bet Draisaitl to score tonight. The sniper has lit the lamp 33 times already this season, and owns one of the best shooting percentages among the league’s top scorers (19%). Draisaitl has 13 career goals against Vegas, and comes at nice discount to McDavid (+125), despite having more goals than his star teammate in three of the past five campaigns.

The biggest piece of injury news for either team, is the continued absence of Stone for the Golden Knights. He’s currently on IR, joining William Karlsson. One piece of good news for Vegas is the pending activation of Brett Howden. He’s expected to return tonight from a lower body injury that’s kept him out of action since January 10th.
Connor Ingram vs Adin Hill Stats
As for the netminders, it looks like it will be Ingram versus Adin Hill. Ingram has shaky since the break, yielding 10 goals in three starts, and posting a sub .850 save percentage in back-to-back outings.
Hill meanwhile, has allowed 12 goals in his last three starts, and was beaten 11 times in four outings against Edmonton last season.
