Predictions, Picks & Odds to Win Group E at 2026 World Cup – Germany Favored Over Ecuador

Group E in the 2026 FIFA World Cup features one of the most successful teams in tournament history in Germany, winners of four World Cups and massive, odds-on favorites to win this group. They are squared with an Ecuador side that relies on its defensive prowess, Ivory Coast’s pace and creativity, and Curacao’s inexperience at the biggest stage.

On paper, Die Mannschaft have what it takes to win Group E. But are they good value at such a short price? Here’s my analysis of the Group E-winner odds at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Unsurprisingly, Germany (-203) has the shortest odds to win Group E; they pair a strong tournament history with an abundance of star power. However, they’ve had some disappointments at the biggest stage in recent years, so don’t be surprised if they leave the door open for Ecuador (+355) or Ivory Coast (+669) to shock the world and finish in first place.

Unfortunately, the same can’t be said about Curacao (+9900), as their 1% implied probability is, reality, generous.

Should You Bet Germany to Win Group E?

Manuel Neuer is in goal. Jonathan Tah and Antonio Rüdiger are anchoring the defense. Joshua Kimmich will control the tempo in midfield, and Jamal Musiala will pull the strings in the final third. This team has experience, consistency, individual quality, and pedigree that make them favorites against teams with little World Cup history. They also enter the World Cup on an eight-game winning streak ahead of their final friendly against USA on June 6.

Germany also has the support of the betting public; the World Cup public betting data shows Germany are in the top ten of betting handle and number of bets to win the entire tournament, priced as the +1400 seventh-favorite in the World Cup winner odds. Backing them to finish in first place in Group E is the smart choice, right? They have a sizable edge over their counterparts in experience, individual quality, and tactical cohesion.

Germany aren’t without their flaws, though. Unlike previous Die Mannschaft teams that had a proven goalscorer like Jürgen Klinsmann or Miroslav Klose, this German squad lacks a reliable striker. None of their forwards are a reliable candidate to make an impact in the World Cup Golden Boot odds. That’s an issue for down the road, though. When it comes to the group stage, Germany deliver decent value even if the odds are short.

Don’t Sleep on Ecuador in Group E

If there’s one team that has the quality to potentially upset Germany in the race to finish in first place in Group E, that’s Ecuador. La Tri, managed by Sebastián Beccacece, turned heads during the CONMEBOL World Cup Qualifying by finishing in second place while conceding only five goals in 18 matches (W8, D8, L2). Their only two defeats came against Brazil and Argentina, both 1-0 losses away from home.

Ecuador’s defensive prowess relies on Hernan Galindez, who’s considered one of the best shot-stoppers in South America and could see tons of value in save-related types of World Cup prop bets. But La Tri’s star players also come on the defensive end, with William Pacho (PSG) and Piero Hincapie (Arsenal) considered among the world’s best defenders. Both faced each other in the 2025-26 UEFA Champions League Final. Their defensive ability is no joke, and that will be their calling card in this World Cup as well.

Ecuador’s odds of +355 are a long shot, but if you’re looking for a value bet, they might be the best choice to pull an upset. They’re riding an 18-game undefeated streak across all competitions (including friendlies) with a W7, D11 record. With just 0.33 goals conceded in that span, a strong defensive showing against Germany and Ivory Coast could boost Ecuador’s chances of ending at the top of Group E.

Ivory Coast, Curacao Are Overmatched Group E

Ivory Coast has a few players worth keeping close tabs on and might have a shot at posting a surprising result in the World Cup game odds throughout the group stage. But a lot of things would have to go right for them to finish in first place here. They’d have to defeat Ecuador and Curacao by large margins and avoid a loss against Germany to even have a shot at that possibility, which is highly unlikely on paper.

As for Curacao, they’re one of the smallest nations in the tournament and won’t have a shot at doing anything more than just competing as hard as they can in each game. It would be completely unrealistic to even think about them fighting for a spot in the knockout stages, let alone seeing them have a shot at winning Group E in the World Cup.
