It’s an unlikely women’s semifinal at Roland Garros, as Diana Shnaider and Maja Chwalinska battle for a trip to the French Open Grand Slam final.

Shnaider steps onto the red clay as the chalk following a breathtaking quarterfinal comeback against World No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka, while Chwalinska should not be taken lightly (though she has the lowest French Open championship odds of the last remaining players), as she has dispatched dispatched three ranked opponents en route to the final four.

Shnaider vs Chwalinska goes Thursday morning at 10:30am ET from Court Philippe Chatrier, with truTV and TNT providing the broadcast coverage.

Shnaider vs Chwalinska Picks & Prediction

  • Shnaider Moneyline (-156 at Kalshi)

Shnaider comes into this contest boasting a ridiculous statistical advantage on the WTA circuit. She currently sits inside the top 25, holding the World No. 23 spot with 1,796 ranking points, while Maja Chwalinska resides well outside the top 100 at No. 114 with a meager 693 points.

But what truly separates Shnaider here is the quality of her wins. She has run through a gauntlet that includes No. 19 seed Madison Keys (6-3, 3-6, 6-0) and World No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka (3-6, 7-5, 6-0).

Against Sabalenka, Shnaider won 99 total points to 88, posted a 75% first-serve percentage, and converted 7 of 20 break points while limiting her double faults to just one. Her second-serve win percentage of 72% against Sabalenka was elite-level, exploiting the top seed’s 39% clip on her own second serve. In the fourth round against Keys, Shnaider broke serve on 6 of 7 break point chances — an 86% conversion rate that signals a player in peak form when the moment demands it.

Chwalinska deserves enormous credit for her run, having beaten seeded opponents in Elise Mertens, Maria Sakkari, and Anna Kalinskaya. Her discipline has been extraordinar, with just four total double faults across five matches, and her break point conversion of 7-for-8 against Kalinskaya was ruthless.

However, none of her opponents compare to the caliber of Sabalenka, and Shnaider’s ability to absorb pressure (coming from a set down twice in the last two rounds) while maintaining her aggressive baseline game gives her a clear edge.

The Russian’s 10 consecutive games won to close out the Sabalenka match demonstrates the kind of dominant gear Chwalinska has not yet faced this tournament. Laying the -156 price tag on Shnaider is the smartest angle on the board.

Shnaider vs Chwalinska Best Bets

  • Shnaider -2.5 Games (-138 at Kalshi)

For bettors looking to avoid heavy moneyline juice entirely, backing Shnaider to cover the -2.5 game spread offers an excellent situational angle.

However, I want to temper expectations on the margin here — Chwalinska’s tournament form demands respect.

In their lone prior encounter at the 2022 ITF Turkey 21A tournament, Shnaider secured a 6-4, 6-4 straight-sets victory, producing a clean four-game margin (12-8 in games) that comfortably covers this spread.

In that match, Shnaider posted a 74% first-serve rate, converted 6 of 10 break points, and won 71 total points to Chwalinska’s 65. Crucially, Chwalinska had 4 of 12 break point chances but could not convert enough to seriously threaten.

The spread angle is further supported by Shnaider’s dominance in games won throughout this tournament: 12-5 against Zarazúa, 13-7 against Kessler, 13-6 against Oliynykova, and 15-9 against Keys.

Her average games margin across five matches shows consistent ability to pull away. Meanwhile, Chwalinska’s margins — while impressive — have come against slightly lower-tier opposition in terms of pure ball-striking. Her closest match was the three-set battle with Sakkari, where she trailed a set before recovering.

While both competitors have evolved significantly since that 2022 meeting, Shnaider’s ability to neutralize Chwalinska’s serve and capitalize on her own break chances in a high-pressure semifinal setting adds a compelling psychological layer to her status as the betting favorite today.
