Week 1 of the 2026 college football season brings a clean slate, a fresh AP Top 25 and 11 games worth betting. Our A.I. model is built to find soft numbers early, before oddsmakers get a real read on who these teams are. No. 2 Oregon, No. 4 Notre Dame and No. 11 LSU all open against opponents with something to prove.
There is more here than blowout watch. No. 9 Ole Miss meets No. 24 Louisville in Nashville in the only ranked-vs-ranked game of the weekend, and SMU closes things out at Florida State on Monday night in a game sitting right on the key number of three in the college football odds.

Model Predictions Back Three Road Dogs ATS
The model takes points with three road teams: Boise State +24.5 at Oregon, Clemson +10 at LSU and Washington State +23.5 in the Apple Cup. All three are getting more cushion than neutral-field power ratings suggest they need, which is usually where opening-week numbers are softest. BetMGM Sportsbook has been the first to move on several of these.
Line movement backs part of that. SMU went from -2.5 to -3.5 with roughly 70% of the spread money on the Mustangs, while LSU crept from -9.5 to -10 even with a slight majority of the handle on Clemson. That gap between tickets and money is worth checking against the public betting trends before you pick a side.
Over/Under Picks Favor Unders in the Blowout Spots
The over/under picks land close to even at six overs and five unders, but the pattern is easy to spot. In the five games with spreads of 20 or more, the model takes the under four times: Fresno State-USC, Boise State-Oregon, Marshall-Penn State and the Apple Cup. Starters rarely finish those games.
The exceptions are the shootouts. Ole Miss-Louisville climbed from 53.5 to 55.5 on heavy over money and the model went with it. Auburn-Baylor dropped from 60.5 to 58.5 and still gets an over, one of the few spots where the model fades the market. Key Week 1 Matchup Breakdowns
Boise State at Oregon: The Broncos lead this series 3-1 and lost 37-34 in Eugene two years ago, which is why +24.5 gets a look. The worry is variance. Boise State averaged 42.2 points in its nine wins last season and 7.6 in its five losses. Oregon is 34-0 against unranked teams under Dan Lanning and has not lost a nonconference home game since 2008.
Notre Dame vs Wisconsin: Laying 20.5 in an opener is steep, but the Badgers scored 12.8 points per game last season, fewest by a Big Ten team this century, and have lost 11 straight to AP top-five teams by an average of 19.2. The over 47.5 leans on Notre Dame’s starts, as the Irish outscored opponents 132-27 in first quarters a year ago.
Marshall at Penn State: Penn State is 24-1 in August and September since 2019, and Matt Campbell takes over a roster returning just three scrimmage touchdowns. Marshall allowed 30.3 points per game last season, its worst mark since 2016. The under 52.5 is a bet that a new staff will keep the playbook small in the opener.
