It’s an all-American clash at the US Open on Tuesday when Taylor Fritz battles Darwin Blanch.

Fritz, who enters this matchup as an astronomical -5000 favorite, brings immense pedigree and raw baseline power. The question will be if Blanch, ranked No. 245 globally, can handle the ferocious pace of a top-10 stalwart.

This one gets going this afternoon at 1pm ET from Arthur Ashe Stadium at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in Flushing Meadows, New York.

American viewers will be able to catch the action on ESPN, while viewers in Canada can tune in on TSN.

Fritz to Win 3-0
65%

Fritz owns a 1958.6 overall Elo rating and a 1888.6 hard-court Elo, compared with Blanch’s 1463.7 overall and 1403.4 hard-court marks. That is a 494.9-point overall gap and a 485.2-point hard-court gap. Tennis Abstract’s August 24 Elo update and Tennis Ratio’s 52-week comparison also show Fritz with major advantages in first-serve accuracy (65.5% to 58.4%), first-serve points won (79.3% to 71.8%), service games won (88.5% to 77.7%), and break points saved (68.4% to 58.0%).

The recent results fit that profile. Fritz won three straight hard-court matches in Cincinnati before a narrow defeat to Brandon Nakashima, including straight-set victories over Daniel Merida Aguilar and Christopher O’Connell. Blanch, by contrast, has lost his last four hard-court matches, all in straight sets, against opponents such as Hijikata, Lloyd Harris, Aleksandar Vukic, and Coleman Wong.

Fritz’s stronger serve should keep scoreboard pressure on Blanch, while the nearly 500-point Elo separation leaves very little room for the underdog to sustain a best-of-five challenge. At -186 via Kalshi, the straight-sets sweep is a highly actionable wager.

Fritz vs Blanch Picks

The same matchup data supports attacking the game spread rather than laying an astronomical moneyline. Fritz averages 1.04 aces per game to Blanch’s 0.50 and wins 49.9% of return points against second serves, while Blanch wins 52.5% of his second-serve points but faces a far more imposing returner here. Fritz’s 1.480 match-efficiency score also dwarfs Blanch’s 1.039, reinforcing the expectation that Fritz converts his advantages consistently instead of merely surviving close sets.

To cover 7.5 games, Fritz needs a margin such as 6-3, 6-4, 6-3 or better. His 88.5% service-game win rate gives Blanch little opportunity to recover from an early break, and Blanch’s recent hard-court losses suggest that the underdog has struggled to stay competitive against stronger opposition. At -113, Fritz -7.5 games offers a more accessible value angle for a match that projects as a lopsided affair.

The betting markets vividly illustrate the staggering gap between these two competitors. Fritz is priced at -5000 on the moneyline, rendering an outright wager unplayable for my card. Backing Blanch at +1800 yields a massive potential payout, but the metrics simply do not justify risking capital on such an improbable upset.

I am specifically avoiding the total games market here. While the Under 31.5 games sits at -125, the -7.5 game spread offers a more accessible -110 price for a game script in which Fritz wins comfortably without needing an extreme blowout.

Oddsmakers clearly anticipate a victory for the veteran American. By focusing on the alternative spread market, I can extract value from an otherwise predictable first-round slate.

Fritz and Blanch have zero head-to-head meetings on the ATP Tour.
