NFL Player Props for Week 2 – Sportsbooks Are Behind on These 3 Players

  • Player props for Week 2 of the NFL season are now widely available
  • With it being so early in the season, sportsbooks are often cautious to not over-correct to recent performance when setting their betting lines
  • These three players have consistently beaten the lines sportsbooks have set for them

As we enter Week 2 of the 2026 NFL season, which is also known as “Overreaction Week,” sportsbooks have done their best to thread the needle when setting lines for player props. They have the difficult job of trying to determine whether last week was an anomaly or the standard for every player, and figure out whether they want to still anchor to last season’s larger sample size, especially for players in similar situations as they were last year.

After spending most of the last 24 hours ingesting all of the player props for Week 2, I have surfaced up three players whose recent performance, but, perhaps more importantly, usage, has improved over a reasonable sample size. One of these is a young quarterback in an offense becoming more and more pass-heavy, another is a running back who has stepped into an even bigger role than he previously had, and the last is a receiver who isn’t seen as his team’s WR1, but his quarterback loves looking in his direction.

While we’re still early in the 2026 season, I like to still look back at last season’s averages, including an average from the final five regular season games. Pair that with the Week 1 results we saw, and we get a pretty decent sample size to review. The table above displays Tyler Shough’s passing yards, Jahmyr Gibbs’ receiving yards, and Jalen Coker’s receiving yards in the different sample sizes, as well as their over-performance versus the line and hit rate. But you can read further analysis on each NFL player prop for Week 2 below.

Tyler Shough Over 237.5 Passing Yards

Tyler Shough’s second season in the NFL started off with a bang, as he threw for 410 yards against the Lions in Week 1. If you watched the game, though, you know it wasn’t all smooth sailing. He only had 15 passing yards in the first quarter, and was only up to 85 by halftime. Then he also recorded 73 of those yards in overtime – still totaled 337 in four quarters, though.

He was able to put up such massive yardage because he attempted 56 passes on the day, as his Saints trailed the Lions 21-0 midway through the third quarter. However, his head coach, Kellen Moore, is also no stranger to throwing the ball often. In five of his seven full NFL seasons, Moore’s offense has ranked in the top 10 in pass attempts per game, peaking at #2 in 2020 with Dallas at 39.9 attempts per game and #3 in 2023 with the Chargers at 37.2 attempts per game.

So, I don’t believe this to be an anomaly. Here’s a look at his last six games to further prove this.

202515Carolina Panthers2432272

As a starting QB last year, he averaged 250.7 passing yards per game (+13.2 vs betting line), and has gone over the 237.5 line in eight of ten career games, which includes eight of the last nine. In his final four games of last season, his passing yards per game jumped to 293 (+55.5 vs line).

I do appreciate his opponent in Week 2, the Baltimore Ravens, only gave up 166 gross passing yards to the Colts last week. I think this is a much better defense than what Shough saw in Week 1, but I also believe Baltimore presents a much better offense as well, which will likely force Moore into a negative game script much earlier in the contest. So, I’ll be taking advantage of this line before the markets start to adjust rapidly moving forward.

Jahmyr Gibbs Over 29.5 Receiving Yards

Last season, while David Montgomery was still a Lion, Jahmyr Gibbs played 66.8% of Detroit’s offensive snaps. Last week, in his first game without Montgomery as his backfield mate, Gibbs played 74.7% of the offensive snaps, an increase of 7.9%.

What’s even more compelling is the usage and opportunity increases Gibbs has seen in the small sample size of 2026 so far. He averaged 18.8 touches and 19.8 looks per game in 2025. But he saw a whopping 34 touches (same amount of looks) in Week 1.

While you can point to most of the extra opportunity coming as rushing attempts, which increased from 14.3 to 29, as his targets actually fell from 5.5 per game last year to five in Week 1, the bottom line here is that Gibbs is on the field a lot more and they’re making a real effort to get him the ball more.

His Week 2 opponent, the Buffalo Bills, are the icing on the cake as to why I think the market is way off here. The Bills offense looked very good last week, posting 36 points while amassing 409 total yards against a Texans team that was arguably the best defense in the league last year, who returned basically all of their starters.

I don’t think this Lions defense is anything to write home about, and I expect Buffalo to enjoy similar success on offense. The result will be Detroit being more aggressive – as opposed to sitting on a lead all of Week 1 – and I think we see Gibbs benefit in the passing game. Just be sure you get to this one in time, as the Lions and Bills play on Thursday Night Football.

Jalen Coker Over 48.5 Receiving Yards

Of the three player props in this article, this is the one I am least confident in, despite the data supporting it. I am still betting it myself, but I don’t love it the way I do the previous two picks. The main reason for that is being forced to trust Bryce Young, who has been inconsistent and unreliable to this point in his young career.

The Panthers’ Week 1 showing was impressive, though, as they scored 37 points against the Bears. While I do not believe Atlanta has any chance of matching the 59 points Chicago scored, which forced Carolina to remain aggressive, I don’t think Jalen Coker going over 48.5 receiving yards requires the offense scoring 37 points.

Coker has only gone over this line in three of his last six regular season games. But it’s worth noting that even when he has missed, it hasn’t been by much. Two of the unders in the last six games saw him record 47 receiving yards.

What has me encouraged is how involved Coker has been in their offense. If you combine Week 1 and the Wild Card game against the Rams, I don’t factor in playoffs to the trends above, Coker has posted 272 receiving yards (134 and 138, respectively) on 21 targets, which is good for a 26.9% target share.

This is, of course, a very small sample size, but there are only nine players who saw a better target share than 26.9% last season, and the vast majority of those players see receiving over/unders north of 70 yards each week.

The Falcons gave up 221 yards to 42-year-old Aaron Rodgers last week, but they had opportunity for so much more – they just couldn’t execute. I’m betting on Young to come through one more time, and Coker will be a big beneficiary of his QB’s strong play.
